If you're going with another person, my suggestion is to share a lunch entree, share a dinner entree, and each get a snack or two in between. You can still try a lot, but it saves $$$. Just as an example for Magic Kingdom: Spicy Chicken Waffle from Sleepy Hollow + 2 Dole Whips + Nachos from Pecos Bill = $35 total for two.

On our last trip, we got a one bedroom at Old Key West, which had a full kitchen. We drove over to the Wal-Mart, stocked up the groceries, and avoided a lot of the park prices by making some nice sandwiches and chips, etc. Used Brita Filter bottles and refilled all over the park, so no prob there. We were there only a few weeks after the reopening, so a lot of restaurants just weren't available anyway, but I would always recommend just getting some cold cuts, cheese, and bread and making your own lunches at least.

We try to save by having breakfast in our room with groceries we pick up when we arrive, then we wait for a combined lunch/dinner (around 3:30 or so) at an all-you can eat location or other hearty/large meal. We supplement in terms of snacks by getting a popcorn bucket at the beginning of the trip and refilling as needed. This works very well at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. At Animal Kingdom and Hollywood studios, we eat one hearty meal at a walk up location, then a smaller bite to tide us over for another meal, again, supplementing with popcorn. Sometimes we do buy a treat to share in the evenings, but we look for a good value. We NEVER buy beverages. Tap water with Mio drops. (Saves a TON.)

Sorry, but adding snacks and food to carry into the park or eat in your room puts your cost over $20. You still have to pay for those "carry in" items or to eat food in your room, just not pay for it IN the park. And really, in theory I could bring all my food to the park and not spend a dime inside. The food in Disney is okay but never worth the price, even if you know the people cooking your food and they always give you some nice perks(extra sauce, scoops, fresher piece), it doesn't beat what you can pick up at Publix.

I bought a pop corn bucket a few trips ago that I still bring. Free water with the added flavorings suit me just fine. Also we fly into Sanford airport and get a driver service to our hotel that will do a quick grocery stop for cold cuts, chips, bread and such. No need spending several bucks on each bottle of mayo, mustard or ketchup. You can pick up a few extra condiment packets at the fast food stands in the park to bring back to the room. I'm trying to think differently this time. Eat more quietly... less money.

For me, the best fast food breakfast was simply the food court at my hotel. The last thing I want before I start a long day riding exciting attractions and miles of walking is a full stomach completely stuffed. My last trip I was completely satisfied with a bowl of oatmeal and a couple slices of toast or a bagel. Wash it down with a small orange juice. That kept me satisfied until an early lunch to beat the lunch rush, and it was cheaper than eating in the parks. We loved our simple breakfasts at All Star Sports and got on to the parks pretty quickly after.

@@michelle1 Just for Food. You probably can get Breakfast and Lunch for around $20 and that leaves $60 for dinner. Note - this will not be enough if you want to eat at the character places or the high end places but it will be enough to find some very good choices. Now, if you want to save money the first thing to do is eat breakfast at the hotel (They generally have a less expensive alternative). Then eat lunch at a Fast food place in the parks instead of a sit down and being served. Then, limit yourself during the week to a couple of special dinners. If you have a car, buy fruit and snacks at a Walmart or Supermarket instead of Disney. However the best way to save money is to stay at a Disney Lake Buena Vista Avenue Hotel from which you can walk a short distance to all of the chain restaurants in basically a few blocks and save far more money. A morning breakfast could cost less than $10 and you can easily get a Dinner for $25. Can you really eat at Disney for $20 a day - NO - not a chance. That won;t cover snacks.

@@Thommadura A long time ago, WDW had this thing called a Dining Plan. ;) The basis for the basic one was that you could eat a table service, quick service and light breakfast for about $85 each day. In today's prices, I'd be that is likely still true, except, as you said, for the really expensive table services. I can easily eat a cinnamon roll for breakfast, lunch at ABC Commissary and dinner at Sci Fi diner in Hollywood studios under $100. (I'd likely have money left for a snack or two.) However, if that dinner was at the Hollywood Brown Derby, there goes the budget. I agree, though, eating for an entire day at Disney for $20 is not possible unless you bring your own food.

We will be eating lunch almost every day with whatever I pack like uncrustables and turkey sandwiches and snacks. We will be trying some quick service locations for lunches but we will only be getting a few items and sharing them because our main lunch is going to be what we pack so we might go to Columbia Harbor house and share a lobster roll just to be able to try it. And then every single dinner is going to be a nice dinner like we have five character dining restaurants that we will be doing. So we plan on splurging on dinner. Our dining budget is $2000. We will be there for nine days and that does not include the groceries that I will be bringing with me so we have a healthy budget to be able to buy snacks that we want to try, but we will mainly be saving for those big meals and it will be really magical for the kids. Plus we won’t have dining during the day so we can hit up rides and take advantage of genie plus.

Yes, I manage to eat under $100 a day and we often add table service restaurants. The trick is to share. Portions are very big and we don't like to feel stuffed to walk around in the heat. We can share meals at table service restaurants like Steakhouse 71 (breakfast and lunch), Sci fi, 50's, Beaches and Cream, Via Napoli and Chef Art Smith's Homecomin. It's plenty of food and makes the over priced meal seem more affordable. We also share quick service meals. Most of the breakfast pastries (Mickey cinnamon roll) are big enough to share. At MK: Pecos Bill, Cosmic Rays and Columbia Harbor House have portions big enough to share. At Epcot France is so affordable we don't need to share, the fish and chips at UK are shareable, and the festival stands often have a filling option for around $6-$8. At AK Satuli is worth the cost to eat an individual meal though I may try the kids meal because the adult bowl is big. At HS we usually share meals at Sci fi and 50's or go just outside the park to Beaches and Cream but I'm going to try the kids meal at Woody's. I really like the breakfast options at Woody's.

$20 budget per day… How about a caloric budget per day? A video showing how to enjoy each park on a 2000 calorie diet. It is certainly possible with sharing. And, with all the steps in the parks (usually over 15K) per day), that expenditure of calories could be rolled into the daily budget for items like spring rolls. Yummm!

Just be sure to ask for the free water. You can go longer without food but you definitely need to rehydrate.

AJ I love chicken tenders and pizza so much. I would spend a few more dollars for French Fries. I don’t really go to a restaurant unless they got chicken tenders/fingers/nuggets or pizza. At Olive Garden i ask for plain chicken tenders and fries when I dine with friends who like pasta.

What is rinsed? Do you mean it rained or what? Serious question.

I think this is a super fun challenge but if you have 7+ people in your family...be serious, you might be able to get in under $20 PER PERSON but you can't even feed 7 people the cheapest fast food for one meal for under $20. Keep your expectations realistic!

and this is NOT directed at the DFB team, but comments. More mouths means more money whether you want to accept that or not.

She doesn't expect you to feed more than one person for under $20. It's per person

Why shouldn’t Disney charge for delivering groceries to your room? Seriously DFB do better. Homecomin brunch for the win. Kept me going with some popcorn snack until dinner.
