It really feel like they broke him at the end, but it's impossible to say where Jreg's playing of his character begins and ends, so he may be really fake tearing up for the bit.
@Trip-x1i3 ай бұрын
My personal read is that there's very little irony in this segment. The parts where he seems to be breaking character I think are snippets of how he genuinely feels, and most of the jokey Jreg-voice stuff is the so-called "return to sincerity" mode that annoys/confuses Dan so much. I value both Jreg and Steven as contributors in the online space, but it's pretty clear that he's genuinely uncomfortable appearing on the AE podcast. He has a lot of fundamental disagreements with Dan/Destiny and the only reason he took them up on their offer is because he thinks there might be some political/philosophical benefit to putting his message in front of DGGers.
@peelsreklaw3 ай бұрын
@@Trip-x1i What is his message though? I've watched jregs videos and it seems the goal is political humor rather than one specific message.
@arthurcosta46433 ай бұрын
@@peelsreklaw I think it is more of an intent than a message per say. I feel like Jreg's intent as an artist is to generate some kind of change, even change that would be considered negative. He wants to change the status quo in some way by popularizing any sort of narrative that is opposed to the status quo. He has already stated that his only fixed identity is the role of the artist, and i feel like he is being honest here: There is no political agenda here other than the desire to move people to whatever framework he feels will cause the most interesting results.

Honestly, I hate how Destiny and Dan steamroll every guest that comes on that they don’t know well enough to care what they have to say. I get that they may be frustrated or confused by Jreg and find it difficult to have a conversation because of that, but this has happened before. I always end up feeling bad for the guest
@a_kazakis3 ай бұрын
Bro, in this case the guest explicitly wanted that. There was nothing Destiny and Dan could do. The harder they tried to engage, the more he trolled them. He was basically acting the whole time, the only way to engage with that is exactly like they did here. Just never take anything at face value.
@timrobins983 ай бұрын
@@a_kazakis I didn’t watch the whole thing, only this clip so idk, but from my perspective jreg talks so little that whatever “trolling” he does doesn’t really play a part in what I’m saying. Do you disagree this happens to other guests like I said?
@a_kazakis3 ай бұрын
@@timrobins98 Tbh I didn't watch this video, I watched the live stream, so I don't know what they included in here. Maybe they cut some key parts. It was very obvious live that he was 100% trolling them. As for the rest of the guests, I think it's hit or miss, but mostly a hit imo. The thing is, they are not trying to have a serious podcast here. I think they drop the "professionalism" on purpose. Sometimes this suits the guest, sometimes not. But so far I think they have pretty good chemistry with most of the guests they brought on. In other words, you are not wrong in your observation, but you are wrong to expect something else, because it is not an oversight on their part, they chose this type of interaction on purpose. And for all it matters, personally I enjoy this more relaxed/casual conversation with some news/drama sprinkled in. If I want a more serious conversation I will simply watch another show.
@timrobins983 ай бұрын
@@a_kazakis I agree with the you mostly. I think the format works most of the time, it’s just the quieter guests that come on can’t compete with their chemistry. Most of the time it’s not an issue, and it is their show so they’re not beholden to their guest, but personally I’d prefer if they try to get the guest in on the joke more. Just preference I guess 🤷♂️

You have no idea how much of this is real, you have no idea how much of it is performative, you habe absolutely no idea how much was outlined before or after, or what even was discussed among them. That was literally the purpose of the entire video. Removing any of those things (as you wish for) might as well not even make the video then, it would be a completely different work, and pointless, all those other things already exist.
