Passed my driving test today on first attempt. Didn't hire any driving instructor for any lesson, went with my own car. Though I've been driving for the past 12years before I came to the UK in October 2022. My driving pattern was totally different after I watched so many KZbin videos. Then I began to adjust and learned so many tricks to pass UK driving test. Today, I want to say a big thank you to all the youtubers doing this great job to help people pass their test. I wouldn't have passed my test if not for this videos. Kudos guys👍

as an instructor myself, i hate that so many people teach this way. How do these people reverse onto their drive, into their garage, or if the only bay they can use doesn't have room for 3 lines after? Says it all when there's stickers all over the window and edge of the car. It's not teaching people to park their car. This is why so many people can't parallel park, they were taught a way to get them through their test and that's it

Hi everyone!Brilliant job Phoebe!Experienced driver here from Germany(10+years of experience)but I still watched it and learnt from it!Thank you!As a little advice for people just like me, never become overcomfident, always check your blind spots and not only the mirrors!Ialmost had an accident the other day with an old lady on her bike, overtaking from the wrong side while I was parking.Of course she shouldn't do that after the rules here, but it's still not an excuse for anyone to hurt her just because she was a bit confused.Saw it in the last second.Check your blind spots girls and boys!

I’ve always thought this 45 degree method is the most efficient way (for me personally) you don’t get bogged down with reference points! My instructor showed me two methods for reverse bay parking and I decided this was the best way to do it. Passed my test two weeks ago 😊

In a test you have to go in a different lane and is more risk
@Orion3T7 ай бұрын
@@Brumie-qq4dc Doing it from 90 deg also requires you to go onto the wrong side because the front will swing out over the line. In principle it requires a bit less space, but not by much. Pulling a bit further past and putting at least some angle on (even just 10deg or so) is still better though, and will typically require less space than starting from 90 deg. It doesn't need to be one or the other.

Personally i think the 45 degree method is better and more transferrable seen as you don't have to rely on stickers for where to go. Thats just what I find thp
@colinjava844711 ай бұрын
I would remember that I've got 1.5 turns to play with to get it equidistant and parallel. So if you're too near the inner line, give it half a turn to put the car on a less tight turning circle, then you know when it goes parallel you've got 1 full turn to do get the wheels straight. If you are too near the outer line, you would wanna just pull forward and then reverse in again.

Reference point i would always use my shoulder or the B pillar. Then you have a starting point in any vehicle. I personally just do off the mirrors and will generally hsve the bsck of the vehicle in the center psst the space i want then aim the vehicle the inside of the corner of the entrance to the space. At this point the vehicle should be at 45 to the line on the inside and is really a case of being slow good clutch control and and adjusting steering to suit. Depending on tightness you might need to pull forward as the angle is too shallow of entry plus things can be tight. Then with the mirrors watch the back wheels.

OMG this brings back horrible memories. My driving instructor had a set of coloured stickers on the windows for reversing around a corner, another set of coloured stickers on the windows for parallel parking, and another set of coloured stickers on the windows for bay parking. It was the most confusing thing I've ever seen. I kept making mistakes because I had to remember what each sticker meant and which colours to look at in any given situation as well as looking out the windows and mirrors. One day, I said to my instructor "look, these stickers aren't working for me. Please can I ignore them and reverse into a space like a normal person?" the instructor said sure, so I just revered straight into a space perfectly. The instructor was speechless. Reversing is easier than driving forward in my opinion, that's why people don't drive forward into a tight space.

I learned this exact method and glad I did because sometimes you need to do such a maneuver in tight parking lots. However, I wish I was told that I should drive while looking and steering through the back window. So I twist my body so I can see the back but I can still rotate my head to look at all mirrors.
@Orion3T7 ай бұрын
Even in tight spaces it is typically advantageous to apply some angle before reversing, even just 10deg or so. This makes it easier to judge as well as actually requiring less space opposite. It doesn't need to be 90 or 45.

I understand that this method is purely to enable the learner to pass the test, however, when driving in "real life," there aren't going to be sticker markers plastered all over any future cars she may drive. My point is, has she realllly learnt how to reverse park? Seeing this helped me to understand why many "just passed" drivers struggle with this manoeuvre.

@@Sharon-cl6rs I never needed to do all the theory test and hazard perception. Saying that you didn't have things like KZbin to help you understand things. It was just your instructor and parents knowledge you had to learn from . Most of the tasks is breaking it down into 3 part so the beginning thinking about where you want to start and to be . The middle part where you carry out the main part. Then end when you finish it off . So parking once past you are thinking I want to park you are simply looking see the space as as you are approaching you are checking what's happening around you whilst you stop and setting up how you want to . Middle part entering the space whilst keeping an eye on what's happening. Then the end everything all good or do you need to readjust. Its much easier to break the task down then you don't get confused. Same with roundabouts thinking about your approach to and what's happening on it. Middle part joining and end exiting.

I had my test in September 2022 and my driving instructor had never taught me reverse bay park. I assumed that maybe it wasn’t done in tests anymore. But leading up to my test (I’d stopped having professional lessons in July due to waiting so long for my test date post covid, and affordability) I tried learning it in a car park two days before my test with my partner in my own car and we both really struggled. So I watched a few videos, just on the off chance and learned a technique but didn’t get to practice it. I just hoped that I’d get parallel parking as was pretty good at it. However, less than 10 minutes into my test he took me to a car park and asked me to reverse bay park. All I could do was try the way I’d watched in the videos and bam! It worked. I couldn’t believe it. Had I not watched those videos I would have failed, but I passed my test first time aged 48. To say I was happy and relieved was an understatement 😁

I think it's fine to teach based on parts of the car like the wing mirrors, pillars, and so on. Those are just useful things to help judge positioning with the caveat they might be different on other cars. But putting stickers everywhere other than just to help people get started is taking it too far I think. Not many people are going to put stickers on their car after they have passed.
