Daal Chawal is a classic and comforting Asian dish. The daal is typically made from lentils such as chana(yellow chickpea lentil)or masoor(Red lentil), cooked until tender and seasoned with a blend of spices including turmeric, salt, Garam masala . The tempering, or tadka, which often includes garlic, ginger or red chilies fried in ghee or oil, is poured over the daal for added flavor. For daal:

(Yellow chickpea lentil)
Masoor daal 1/2 cup
(Red lentil)
Water 2 cups
Salt 1tsp or to taste
Turmeric 1/2tsp
Oil 2tbsp
Chopped garlic 1tsp
Chopped ginger 1tsp
Salt 1/2tsp
Red chilli powder 1/2tsp
Turmeric 1/2tsp
Fried onion 1 & 1/2tbsp
Water 1/2 cup
Water 2 cups
Chicken cubes 1
Water 1/2 cup
Garam masala 1/2tsp
Black pepper powder 1/2tsp
For tadka:
Clarified butter 2tbsp
Ginger(julienne cut)
Chopped garlic 1/2tsp
For chawal
Oil 1/4 cup
Green cardamom 2
Cloves 3
Bay leaves 2
Black pepper corns 1/2tsp
Cumin seeds 1/2tsp
Water 3 cups
Salt 1 & 1/2tsp
Lemon juice 1tsp
