I am a beginner from Australia I have a question about dhamaal i am playing dhamal two ways not sure which one is right to keep practicing. 1) DHA GE NA GE NANA KE NA GE NA i kinda broke this into (a) DHA GE NA GE NANA (b) KE NA GE NA ( there is pause after NA then i start again with DHA and loop through it is correct Bol wise but doesn't sound exactly like you play ) 2) DHA GE NA GE NANA KE NA GE NADHA ( so rather to take pause after NA i play DHA quickly then take pause then loop GE NA .... this way it sounds more like you play but i am not sure if this is correct ) So could you please point out which is right way Thank you Ustadji

@@chander8234 That's interesting, always nice getting knowledge from others. Thank you for sharing! Dhamaal is one of the most universal rhythms that you find in Punjab and other places where you find a good presence of dhol. That is why you find so many different variants. I personally haven't seen it being played how you have it written out but I would love to hear what it sounds like. Do you have a video link that you can share? Dhamaal in modern bhangra context, at least in North American bhangra, from observation, is played: dha ge na ge nana ge na ge na (in simplest form). There are obviously many variations that are associated with variations in the dance move. If you move away from Punjab and go to Pakistan for example, you will find dhamaal played in the context of Sufi devotional dance. The rhythm that you hear again is: dha ge na ge nana ge na ge na (in simplest form) with many variations used to spice it up. Again, interesting point that you bring up, but one thing I've learned from travel and speaking to other dholis is that the name of the rhythms might be different based on the region that you are associating the rhythm with
