Random question but is there a big difference in the sound quality of dhols made by sheesham and those made by mango wood? Which one is the most common also? Thanks in advance (also what is the one you are using here)

Hi Yusuke Okina, in my opinion, there is a difference in the sound that is produced by various woods because of the densities of the woods. Both are very common, but Mango (amb) is considered inferior because it is less hard. Sheeshan (tahli) is therefore the preferred choice. Lighter sheesham dhols are referred to as white sheesham or chitti tahli, while those that contain a higher percentage of the dark wood are referred to as kaali tahli or dark sheesham. The dhol that I am using in the video, I would categorize as chitti tahli
