How about the fact that she never even gave the whole "Dont talk to strangers selling you obviously fake deals" lecture. She legit focused the ENTIRE LESSON on how he was dishonest with her. Not on how his actions could have devastated their whole family or how to be aware of scammers or how to NOT chase strange men through dark alleyways to their nondescript white vehicles where they could lure you inside on the premise of trying to retrieve the card.....There were so many good lessons here in this ridiculous situation, but she only chose the "you were dishonest with me" approach, which, while still a valuable lesson about openness, honesty, and approachability, is not ultimately the most important or dire need from this situation....This is not the time, Karen. Also minor nitpick, _what teenage_ boy would want to be called _Sammy and Georgie?_ Did Dhar Mann have a _hatred_ against the nicknames _Sam and George?_

The mom is rewarding the younger kid for being a “good boy”, but he really wasn’t. He let his brother take the card and didn’t tell his mom when he had a lot of opportunities to. He could have said something when his brother uncovered his mouth, when he was in the car, could’ve called his mom when he left the store, when they were picked up or eating dinner. He wasn’t in on the plan his mom set up, so for all he knew she could’ve lost all her money, and he still didn’t say anything! But, have a play station anyway, kid,for doing nothing to help the situation!

Nah I think giving the brother the ps5 was okay, because the older one can still pay on it/use it Extra pocket money for being extra good (good grades, extra chores, etc) is also very much a thing, along with paying less to badly behaved kids The only thing I disagree with is giving the older brother's "owed money" (from the robux) to the younger brother, cause that one feels like a bit of a power move

@@justaperson4656 its not so much that the younger kid got rewarded for being good (which he wasn't even that good) its more the way she did it. She gave everything that the older one was supposed to get to the younger one, and the attitude towards the older brother while she did it was horrible. Kids lie sometimes, that doesn't give parents the right to be horrible to them. Also do you have siblings? Because I have two and I know for a fact that if they got something like a gaming console then it would have been theirs and I would have gotten to use it maybe once in a blue moon. Rewards for good behaviour are good, but when they are just a means of rubbing it in to your other kid that they messed up then it's pretty scummy
@justaperson4656
@justaperson4656 2 жыл бұрын
@@starshine_lue5823 I do actually have siblings, I have five of them! More often than not, I had the hand me down consoles (mostly handheld, like game boys and Nintendo ds) or was given the "player 2 controller", which usually meant I "played" as tails while my sister played sonic. I get that the younger brother wasn't particularly good, but he was still pushing the older one to be honest and own up to his mistakes, which in my mind earns him the ps5 (instead of the mother returning it) and the mother did a decent job explaining why, aside from threatening oldest with the cops. I get how it'd cause resentment from one side if this sort of thing happened regularly, but this is a one off instance of the eldest committing a crime. Maybe this whole thing is just my own fantasy as a younger sibling tho lol

@@justaperson4656 siblings can hold a grudge if they think they where wronged. Personally im against one sibling getting ownership of something like a ps5 to begin with. They are expensive, and to give it to just one kid doesn't really seem fair at all. Handheld consoles are a bit different, they are a little more personal. I think the mother should have held onto the ps5 for a few months and let the younger one use it while the older one learned his lesson, then let the older one use it to.

Instead of all this “I wanted to teach my son a lesson.” stuff maybe it might have been more beneficial to everyone in the long run to just sit down with the kid and explain how credit works? And add in how it’s bad to steal from people and how that can be another slippery slope by itself. I mean it seems to me that talking with kids about the things we don’t want them to do would work a lot better than tricking them into the bad behaviour that they might not have even considered had the trap never been set.

I feel like a more fitting punishment wouldve been to make him take the occulus back, yes. Withhold allowance until hes paid back the online purchases, and then ground him for a week from video games. If youre *really* mad. But to outwardly take his birthday gift and give it to the brother, and then on top of that give his allowance to the brother too, was just not right.

You could also delay his birthday gifts until maybe a week later as a punishment or like you said, ground him afterwards. As you said, you should return the items bought and so on, but to give his birthday gifts and allowance to the brother? When was the younger brother honest? I don't know, like yeah, he didn't *use* the credit card, but he didn't tell his mum either. I'm not for snitching but this is different. I can guarantee you that if that was me, I would get punished too. He knows it's wrong, but just kind of goes with it anyway.

There really should be mandatory classes on money management starting in middle school at the latest. A section on how credit works would save a lot of people from making some huge financial mistakes when they turn 18 and those credit card applications come pouring in. A lesson in the consequences of instant gratification would be beneficial as well. Case in point; as a teen one of my friends turned 18 near the beginning of their senior year and her parents gave her a credit card for her birthday. I watched as she showed up every day in new clothes and offered to pay for our group’s lunch whenever we decided to eat off the school grounds, (nothing fancy; Taco John’s was a favorite because it was cheap and close to the high school), and then one day she shows up in our home room looking pissed off. I asked her what was wrong and she told me that her parents confiscated her credit card after she had maxed it out in two weeks and was upset that her parents just didn’t take care of it for her. One of the things she said about the situation has always stuck with me and has made me afraid to get a credit card or checks for years: “I thought all that stuff was paid for with the card!” I admit I didn’t know much about credit cards at that age either but I did know is that I didn’t want what happened to her to happen to me. It wasn’t until years later watching my mother max out credit card after credit card (including my grandmother’s and having my grandma cancel all her own cards after finding out my mom had taken them), having to leave an entire cart full of groceries at the store when they wouldn’t let her write a check because her last three bounced and knowing that she’s been banned at nearly every payday loan place in own town and has been bankrupt at least twice since I was a kid and I’ve had to put my foot down regarding her asking me for money or favors like helping her to get her wedding ring out of the pawn shop and never seeing a dime of it back, etc, and remembering my old friend and what she went through, all that made me realize that it’s very easy to not think things through and put off important things like when the bills come due for what we can have in the moment. I just recently got two credit cards to work on my credit score since at 47 it shouldn’t be zero, right? I keep getting more and more “instant approval” credit card applications in the mail that I immediately toss in the trash after ripping them up because just having two cards is scary enough! Tl;dr: Credit cards can be scary as hell. Kids don’t know how they work. Schools should just assume their parents can’t or won’t teach them about credit cards and money management and go ahead and teach them. Witnessed a friend learn a lesson about how credit works, and I’m still a little bitter about my mom being bad with money.
