Nepal hardens stand on Dalai Lama KESHAV PRADHAN Kathmandu, July 25 In the wake of King Gyanendra's recent visit to China, Nepal seems to have further hardened its stand on the Dalai Lama and his followers. The Nepal police on Thursday disrupted a press conference called by the Dalai Lama's followers. Prior to this, Nepalese authorities had forced the Tibetans to cancel celebrations of the Dalai Lama's 67th birthday on July 6,2002 three days before King Gyanendra left for his 10 days China tour. Wangchuk Tsering, the Dalai Lama's representative in Nepal, had just begun to read out his four page statement when police officials entered the venue, a private hotel, unannounced. The policemen first stopped the press conference and then took away local organizers, Passang Sherpa and Wangchuk Norbu Sherpa, to the police headquarters for questioning.
