Dharu Varnam - Mathe Malayadhwaja Pandya Sanjathe... - Sridevi Nrithyalaya - Bharathanatyam Dance

A famous Dharu Varnam composed by Harikesanallur Sri Mutthiah Bhagavathar, surrendering to the Universal Mother, the presiding deity of the city of Madurai, the adorable daughter of the Pandya King Malayadwaja, Goddess Meenakshi.
Oh Devi, who is the mother of Ganesha and Guha! Oh Shankari, the slender- waisted one, who destroyed Chamunda! Oh Gowri, who adorns the lustrous crescent moon on her head!
Mutthiah Bhagavathar addresses the Goddess thus and asks her to protect the magnanimous Maharaja of Mysore, Sri Krishna Rajendra who is an expert in the 64 arts and a great patroniser of poets. The composer prays to Goddess Shyamamba who shines like emerald and prostrates to her to protect his benefactor.

This one of its rare kind of composition, to be frank I have never heard this kind of composition from any compositors in which Muttaaiya bhagavathar praised Ambal, Bhagavathi, Haimavathi, ........ and also narrating the doctrine of the emperor nalwadi shree Krishna rajendra wadeyar a Ambaa Dasa whose children's also made efforts to move in his path. Also this rare composition provides the knowledge to the future generations about what all the honour names given to emperor.

Yes, that is exactly my feeling! Each of them is Baala Meenaambigai I feel whenever I watch this. My TV is close to my poojaa area, and I keep doing namaskaaram to our Amman moorti and pictures throughout this dance, it's so profoundly moving. Each Baala Meenaambigai here is one with the beautifully-rendered song, its magnificent instrumentation, its meaning, the taalam, the movements, with her abode (Madurai Meenaakshi Koil) in the background, the sound of Amman's golusu and feet, her beautiful overall green complexion (the effect given by the green saree), her eyes and smile full of affection and compassion. The dance is Amman's own movements. That is why I can't stop watching this video which is perfection in every way. It moves me to profound happiness and dissipates tremendous sorrow while watching, many of SDN's Bharatanatyam videos have that effect, and this one is among my very favourites. It is pure aanandam throughout. When Amman stands in her famous Meenakshi pose in the end, the joy it creates is so great I think that has taken us to the Sahasrara. This video must be Srividyopaasana. I keep thinking 22 minutes is not enough, it should never end. (Contrary to a couple of critiques in the comments on this page, I thought the natural lighting and camera angles to be faultless, in no way interfering with but rather perfectly enabling the Natyam's full effect described above.)
