By far one of the most definitive sets of the year. This one is going in the books. Captain Faceroll played insane during top 8 with a 3-0 comeback on Spark, a 3-0 and 4 stock on none before taking grand finals. All while doing it convincingly.

I am not sure it would be considered a major. It definitely isn't a super major. Not enough top 20 entrants. The 5 gods thing isn't required to make a major or super major, but this match lacked too many top 20 players to have the points to be considered either most likely.

I think a win like this had been coming for Faceroll. He's one of those guys where you just know they're pouring so much into grinding the game. Not saying he's the next Zain, but it was clear that with enough experience at this level, he'd win a tourney of this size. Hope he's in the next Summit, way more exciting to see him than Lucky/Wes etc. for the 100th time.

There are a few people grinding the game now, but if you're comparing it to 2014-15-16 its not even close. All the gods were playing at that time (2014-15) and they ALL grinded constantly along with pretty much everyone in the top 30, maybe even 40 or 50. It's the reason why Amsa, Axe, Wizzy, IBDW, Fiction, Zain, Faceroll, Moky etc. are so good now. 2014 was literally the golden age for melee, the hype surrounding the game pushed it to be one of the greatest fighting games ever. Everyone pretty much agrees on that

Max is really good at playing off others and he has a good voice for commentary (sorry, but it does matter). Combine that with someone who can break down what makes this top level Melee and you get commentary people are excited about. I know people try their best, but I'd ditch 80% of commentators for this to be standard.

Why would he do that? Hed probably been playing no marth all day, he hasnt been playing marth that much vs high level players in tournament recently (in fact he dropped game 1 to jamrun's peach with his marth recently and had to use his sheik to win the set) hes had way more hours of experience with the ditto and was still taking games off plup in it in 2018, and i dont remember his marth doing that at all in 2018. And finally i dont think m2k was in the right mental state to make a comeback with marth, its a difficult and demoralizing matchup for him and m2k didnt seem to have his head in the right place closer to the end of the set anyway

The ledge grab limit here was so perfect. Even on the first game you could see m2k trying to hold ledge for a second with Faceroll just holding center and not approaching, forcing m2k to actually approach.
