I do live in Croatia on the small peninsula Istria. Flos Olei, the bible of all premium olive oil producers around the world, declared actually Istria as the best olive oil region in Europe for eight times in a row. 😊 Among the best/top 100 olive oil prucucers, almost half of them are from Croatia. Bought directly from the producer, one pays between 20 and 50 €/liter. We two need 30 l per year at least. We are in the sixties and totally healthy. Come and see.

0:01:28 - the olive tree is only distantly related to the peach, or the cherry, or the plum, or the apricot trees. The last four all belong in one family, the rose family Rosaceae which is distinct to the olive tree family, Oleaceae. The olive tree is more closely related to ash, privet, jasmine, osmanthus. The families are not even found in the same order. Rosaceae is in the Rosales order and Oleaceae is in the Lamiales order. And Rosales are in the Rosids clade while the Lamiales are in the Asterids clade.

@@tumbleweeduk7479 Generally speaking, that's true what you said, but, unfortunately, the cheater discovered a trick even for the fridge test. Premium olive oils costs at least 20$/liter. And one can't buy it at any supermarket, because the premium olive oil producer simply can't produce the amounts in order to supply a supermarket chain around the year. Of course, after having tasting many top olive oils, one recognise medium and low quality easily.

Where I live half of the year on Crete, they make olive oil and they say that the best oil is one year old. We get it straight from the factory on the day the olives are picked.To begin with it is very bitter and over a few months it matures, and becomes darker at the bottom. The lighter oil at the top is the best and this is what the Greeks pour on their salads and use for cooking. And believe me this is the creme de la creme of olive oil.

The host seems to understand something that the interviewee doesn't seem to grasp. And that is that MOST consumers are NOT going to take the time or put forth the effort to become an expert on olives, as their busy lives don't allow it. So the one bit of information that would be the most important to the greatest number of people is absolutely deflected by the interviewee, and that is how do we know which oil is actually extra virgin olive oil, so we aren't getting canola oil mixed in. The lack of a good answer to this single question sort of ruins and devalues this podcast. It's not the fault of Dhru, as he tried several times to extract the answer, but was never given it.

if olive oil is touted as being so good like its got some health halo around it and no one is allowed to dis or challenge then why not consume it whole in it's original natural unadulterated form straight off an olive tree? why bother squeezing it just for the oil? is concentrating the oil automatically makes it better from a nutrition perspective? I get there are other reasons to pressing it for culinary uses. I would rather have whole olives in water from a jar over any pressed oil that I will never trust to be real because someone (food manufactures) have played with it. I have seen whole olives sitting in seed oils canola corn soy etc in jars on store isles. a complete hypocrisy that it is not in the same oil made from olives. same problem at the salad bar. I think the legal requirement for the olive oil label on a bottle at the store is at least 51% made from olives so the remaining 49% can be anything but the real stuff. no brand gets a pass in my book. In an ideal world I would have a olive tree in my backyard in good soil tested to be free from modern environment toxins. the same issues applies to avocado oil and avocados.

@dhru - you bring such extraordinary people to your interviews. some of them have changed my entire thinking with respect to the stuff they talk about. Lustig, Panda, Stefano to name a few. But Lustig (as an example) is also very clear on certain principles - on disclosures, on not getting paid by Big Food etc. You are an influential figure on health discourse - it is time you start laying out some principles as well. Nicolas didn't disclose, neither did you that he was a OO salesman. When you said "buy small bottles to presrve freshness", he said "no, buy big bottles and drink more". That is when I googled on who he was. And stopped watching this video. Credentializing and disclosing is key to meaningful conversations. I am sorry, I hope you are not lowering your bar in a hunt for content.

One does not have to be a "Doctor" or "Nutritionist" to be knowledgeable on a health-related topic ... actually it's more likely to be the opposite. Conventional doctors are taught very little (if any) nutrition in their education, and conventional nutritionists are taught to follow guidelines of BIG Food and government agencies such as USDA and FDA; who in turn work in compliance with BIG Pharma. This is precisely why optimal health in this country is rare.
@ryanwiley7894
@ryanwiley7894 8 ай бұрын
@@bchristine58 I agree with you and much prefer a functional doctor to conventional, however my point still stands with this video, the guy seems to lack or didn't know how to share what I feel like most of us came here for, example it's protective against the damage caused by eating food in general, he glanced over how it amplifys eating other foods with it etc... should have went deeper with what it can do for us instead of talking about what color the olive is which we cannot see when buying the product 😂. Personally I can do my own diligence on finding a source and his info on that ate up way to much of this podcast and it was dummed down to check harvest date and one source 😂, the basics, should have taken 30 seconds of the episode. Not trying to be rude hopefully he sees my comment and if he gets on another podcast hopefully he can focus on what we are interested in.

Seriously? Why would you have an olive oil salesman on your program to discuss the science or the health benefits of his own product? No mention of the high saturated fat content in olive oil. Such a biased interview. Disappointing.

No!!! Everybody does not love it! I don’t like the taste or smell of it and we mostly get fake olive oil anyway!!! I love olives but the oil does not taste anything like an olive. How does olive oil connect people ? It doesn’t!!! yech!!! 🤢🤢🤢🤢🤢

@@diogenebladi4469 It's possible I've been unlucky and tasted only bad olive oils. Or I just don't like the taste of olives. I do my best to steer clear of the whole fruit as well.
