To be fair, the NECA figures were never designed to have the articulation to sit inside a vehicle. Also, NECA are simply "7-inch figures", not "7-inch scale". It would be funny to see what the BTTF animated figures would look like inside this model😀

Neca figures are 1/10 th scale figures and are like 17.5 cm (7 inches) compared to the "standard" 1/12th scale figures that are 6 inches (15 cm) tall.

TOMY didn't want to add sounds effects because they felt like it was more of a gimmick than something useful. It's the reason they added and focused their energy on the fog effect instead. I'm looking forward to seeing, purchasing and receiving TOMY's version of the BTTF 2 DeLorean once everything is figured out.

So... my observation is that true scale vehicles almost never work with true scale figures. The first problem is articulation. Few figures, even ones with 30 POA, have the range to 100% do what real bodies do in a car, especially hips deeper than 90. The second problem is with the vehicles. If you make certain things to scale, unless you make the interior more hollow than the real thing or have inaccurate seats, the interiors aren't flexible enough. The floors are also too high because of material thickness. McFarlane movie Batmobiles manage to be 1/12 and fit 1/10 figures but they have to be super hollow and remove passenger seats and/or surrounding storage. The Ghostbusters 1/18 car and o-ring figures have the same problem. It's very difficult to pair same scale figures and vehicles, particularly unless you make one or both deliberately inaccurate in some ways. Generally, the ideal is vehicles that are about 10% oversized to figures for a natural fit. Interestingly, I believe the Plasma Ectomobile 1/12 Haslab is actually a 1/10 car, to fit figures better... and apparently Hasbro wanted the somewhat oversized Marvel Legends to fit. That's also a problem, because most American superhero toylines are oversized for their scale. Granted, the really funny thing with DC is that the official statistics for the characters are huge (or really short for some women) and nobody draws them realistically, especially relative to Marvel characters, who tend to be a bit short. Basically, the whole Justice League should be around Colossus or Thor's size, even though nobody actually draws them that way in team-ups. So that actually makes DC figures from McFarlane less overscaled, technically, with 1/10 than Marvel is with 1/12. In general, the shortest McFarlane figures are basically ALREADY in scale with the average Marvel Legends, like Page Punchers Superman and Knightfall Batman. Batman is canonically built closer to Thor than Cap even though he's drawn closer to Cap. Oh. And the Adam West Batman and Reeve Superman are actually pretty undersized in Multiverse because West was actually the tallest Batman actor and should tower over even most comics characters and Reeve was taller than that. So the McFarlane West and Reeve are honestly pretty much Legends scale or maybe technically too small. Assuming the actors didn't lie about their heights, which is common.

@ Maybe on a Facebook livestream. They were very careful not to even mention NECA on the actual Kickstarter page, much less show any. As far as I'm aware, the DeLorean itself is actually 1/10 and the problem is that Doc's hips don't even bend 90 degrees. And sitting in a driver's seat believably requires bending more than 90. That feels like a NECA problem to me. I'm not sure how you actually account for that with the car without modifying the interior in a way that would piss off all the car enthusiasts who hate action figures to begin with and would never put a figure with the car. You'd probably have to tilt the whole interior at an angle and/or make the floor unrealistically thin.

I just got mine as well. For the price, its a really good model. A few missed details, particularly the black wire around the car missing the multi color wires, but overall its a wonderful model. I think the figures may run a little big and the car itself is closer to true 1:10 scale. Plus, NECAs articulation doesnt make for great seated poses. Consudering how well this did, I hope we see a version for part 2. They already did most of the work and tooling. Overall, for the 299 plus shipping that I paid a year and a half ago, its a pretty good deal for what you get compared to similar deloreans.

Glad to see you liked it. The smoke effect is something that I could have lived without but I have to admit it does look great. If I’m not mistaken the tail lights are not illuminated, which is a bit of a bummer. I think the scale is probably accurate, but as you mentioned the actual Delorean is tiny and the figures aren’t engineered to sit inside. I might try to find a cheap Bttf II Doc and fit it with a cloth robe to help it fit inside.

I sat in a Delorean back in 1983. I was 6’ and 1/4” tall (I’ve shrunk a bit since then. Old age and back problems suck.) and that sucker was cramped. It didn’t help having a 50” chest either. It was a cool car, but I would not have cared for all the head bumping on the roof when driving over rough roads.

Absolutely beautiful vehicle! But we need either TOMY to make figures or a 6 inch BTTF figures. It’s like the McFarlane tumbler, which fits better the Mattel Dark Knight figures than the 7 inch McFarlane. Speaking of Batman, does the Silver age grey tone matches the Knight fall black variant version? 😊

I don't think there's any scale issue with the figures standing next to the car. They look pretty perfect to be honest. The problem with seating them is more of a NECA figure articulation engineering problem, not a TOMY vehicle scale size problem.

Just got mine, debating on opening it. I've got the figures but since then I have the 1/15 diamond select back to the Future car and got custom 118 figures that fit in there perfect. The torso crunch on neca isn't as good or doc would fit. The human body is squishy and the car seats are spongy , replicating that is hard for figures and vehicles. The vehicles need to be slightly oversized or have sunken seats. You could probably take a Dremel And hollow out the seat making a butt depression for doc.

I remember when Neca first launched their BTTF line they made a Delorean Time Machine but it was smaller and out of scale with the figures in the line. They disappeared from shelves pretty quickly, it was pretty decent looking but nowhere near as nice as this one. Too bad they didn’t make on in scale with the figures.

I'm pretty sure the car is scaled correctly to 7" scale. The figures are the correct height when standing next to the car. TOMY just focused on accuracy rather than seatability in regards to the seats. The 7" scale NECA figures are just not really engineered well for sitting, so TOMY would have needed to find a way to sit the seats even lower to the floor to accommodate for the NECA figures.

How much was this $200 if a few years ago. I could imagine neca or hasbro charging double for that. Dry ice would work for the fog would work. You have to be very careful with that stuff, for safety. You can get liquid fog at party supply places too. I usually got mine to fill smoke machines from Halloween stores when in season. It's also called liquid smoke. They all do the same thing and don't think you can go wrong with any.
