Both front and rear derailleur cables needed to be reconnected at the brakes/shifters. Thanks so much for the heads up! A nice bonus was a re-taping of my bars, which was much needed.

John - you’ve saved my bacon! Trained for a year to do the Marmotte and just arrived this evening to discover my Di2 not working. A nightmare as I’m in the mountains and 48 hours to go. I’d checked the cables to no avail. But re-checked after your video and bingo: the power cable was slightly out and so now sorted. Many thanks for your brilliant hack..

Man you’re a big help. The rear derailleur wasn’t shifting at all and I thought the battery was dead. Luckily, I found your YT video, lo and behold there goes the answer loose connection. A big thank you man. That really help like novice like me. Now it’s working again.

John, thanks for the tip. I flew my bike to Indianapolis to ride in the Major Taylor Invitational. Had to take seat tube and battery out of bike to fit in bike box. The front derailleur on my 8100 Ultegra stopped working on the first days ride. I suspected a low battery and charged battery that night. Next day the front still didnt work. I connected e-tube and battery was green. I was in a hurry for a flat Gran Fondo so I didnt investigate further. I did note that e-tube had lost my bikes configuration. After watching your vid I connected to e tube and noted that my front derailleur was not detected. I checked the wire connections and they appeared secure at the battery. I disconnected the wires and then plugged them back in using a different port (battery has 3). Reconnected to e tube and hurray!, the front derailleur was back in my config. Disconnected from e tube and tested front and back and they now both work. Thanks again, I subbed.

Hi John - Thanks for the tips, very helpful to a rookie Di2 owner. What is the recommendation for disconnecting the battery for short transports, such as when I throw the bike in the back of my pickup truck for an hour or two drive to the start of the bike ride? (Battery is deep inside the bottom bracket, no exposed junction boxes.)
@recordball3 жыл бұрын
Hi Lynn, no need to disconnected during trips or when bike is not in use. System isn’t drawing power from the battery when the bike isn’t in use. Disconnecting is usually only required when shipping because you have to remove the seat post from the frame and the handlebars from the stem.

You should NEVER pull or seat an SD50 cable without the TL-EW02 tool snapped onto the connector.

Hey John. This is great, but man I'm still stumped. So I'm able to run through the crash recovery, and the derailleur shifts through all the gears as it should... but as soon as it's complete, my shifting is completely unresponsive. Neither the front nor the rear shifting works.... it doesn't do anything, not even an attempt to move. Any advice?

When is the last time you updated your system with the SiS software? Try that. Also check your battery health.

Hello I would like to use a Shimano Alfine 11Di2 for my e-bike muscle drive part, but I don't want 3 batteries on board (so far I have 2 GreenPack to power 2 Grin AllAxle motors). I would like to know if it is possible to power Di2 differently than from the original Shimano battery? For example, using the Shimano EW-EX010 adapter normally used with Bosch systems. However, no one can tell me what the plug at the end of Bosch Y-Harness is (the one that plugs into EW-EX010) and what pinout it has. I suspect that I will have to reduce the voltage from 48V on the GreenPack to a 36V Bosch battery and I will not have a CAN to control the automatic gearshift (no cadence and speed sensors for the muscle drive). Or maybe do it differently ????

Hi, thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer this question. Have some opinions on that but I wouldn’t want to give you the wrong information. From my experience Shimano DI2 is only powered by the DI2battery Intended for the specific generation or model DI2 you are using. Your best bet to get the correct information would be to contact Shimano customer service. They are super helpful. Here is the phone number (800) 423-2420

@@recordball I've been running Di2 shifting on my Alfine 11 rear gearbox for a few years with the Shimano battery. It works fine and lasts a long time between needing recharges. Probably a few thousand shifts in between.

I have a cable which doesn’t make that audible ‘click’ into the port. Can not get the cable in securely. Do you think I need to replace the e tube cable or the junction box?
@recordball2 жыл бұрын
Did you try pushing really hard. Sometimes they are super tough to get them to snap in. If not then try plugging a different wire into the junction box. Maybe something got bent or you could have Debris in one of the holes
@SupernovaRallyteam2 жыл бұрын
@@recordball yep thanks tried everything to push it in and it’s not securing in and yes tried another wire also same issue. Can’t see anything bent but that would suggest the port connecter I think so maybe a new unit is required
@recordball2 жыл бұрын
@@SupernovaRallyteam Yes in all my years of dealing with you Di2 I have actually never heard of this issue but it does sound like it would be the junction box or the port box that is damaged.

Hi john.. i have question for you.. how long di2 battery will survive after charging? It because my di2 battery always runs out every 1 week. U know what happen? The indicator battery when charging its not a problem.. thx b4..
@recordball3 жыл бұрын
A fully charged Di2 battery should last for up to 1200+ miles/2000+ kilometers or up to 60 hours of use depending on how much you shift. We have had bikes that don’t need to be charged for over a month with daily use and bikes that have sat unused for 3+ months that still held a decent charge. I would suggest downloading the free Etube software from the shimano website and running a diagnostic and updating your system. Is this doesn’t help then I would suggest replacing the battery.

I found the absolute best fix for my faulty Di2. I removed it and installed the ultegra mechanical system from my old bike. Voila, no more trouble with Di2!

As long as your junction box has a port to plug your charger into just down load the Shimano SIS app and plug the USB into the computer and go through the steps.
