why do they force women to eat carbs? it's what happened to my wife, she had success with her Gl levels eating very low carb as you say less than a 100, and less than 15% of total intake , and they insisted for her to eat bread at breakfast and 200 grms of pasta at noon. Of course her blood glucose went up ,so she stoped and went back to eating more meat and fat and less glucose... on her own, without asking. It makes no sense. They kept on telling her that if she did'nt eat bread she'd be hungry and would fail her diet, she told them she was fine eating that way and was'nt hungry at all ... she would'nt convince them.

Very nicely done, with the basic principles. Thank you. :D btw screening is done at 26-28 weeks because that's when the diabetogenic hormones are at their peak levels. :)

Actually, the first test is the Glucose Challenge. Then if you fail that, its the Glucose Tolerance test. Done over a 3 hour period.

@@ahmeduchiha Glucose challenge test (GCT): Only checked 1 hour after given a specific amount of glucose (it's usually a 75 g GCT) If the glucose level is over 140mg/dL, then mom has failed the GCT and has to do a GTT. Glucose tolerance test (GTT): Done when mom has failed the initial GCT. Measures mom's glucose levels 3 times; once per hour for 3 hours. After given 75 g of glucose, Levels are considered normal if glucose at: - 1 hour mark is < 180 mg/dL - 2 hour mark is < 153 mg/dL - 3 hour mark is < 140 mg/dL

I have GD and 31 weeks pregnant. I am monitoring my blood suger using CGM, should I only consider one hour glucose and two hours and make sure that they are bellow 140 and 120?. My pick sometime is not within hour and it is 1.5hr after first bite. It even reaches to 170 but then drop to 120 in half an hour.

With type 1 the pancreas doesn’t make insulin. With type 2 it has become “over worked” and isn’t producing enough insulin. So with gestational is it safe to say it’s not a problem with the pancreas at all but just the placenta telling the body to be resistant to the accepting glucose? Is gestational diabetes different in the fact that it’s not an issue with the pancreas while type 1 and type 2 is?

Would anyone be able to provide a credible source for the "hormone theory" as the causative agent in development of GDM?
@switchfoot2010rz
@switchfoot2010rz 9 жыл бұрын
Correction: the OGTT is first a screening test of 50g of glucose and checked one hour later. IF it is over 140mg/dL, THEN they will do a diagnostic screening of 100g @ 3 hours or 75g @ 2 hours to diagnose. A result of at least two of the hour checks is diagnostic of GDM.

3 years ago this was still true in the US and a few other countries, but the standard test (even when you wrote this) was 75g of glucose taken after a fasting blood test. Then another blood test at 1 and 2 hours. The values for fasting were 92mg/dl, 180 after 1 hour and (I think) 140 after 2. Those numbers might be off though. My doctor now had me do a glucose screening like the one you described so I could calibrate the numbers to my glucose meter (done at 24 weeks). Then for the past 4 weeks, I have taken a fasting, and post meal reading after breakfast, lunch and dinner. If my fasting goes above 92 or any post meal past 130 an hour later, it’s too high.
