Diablo 1 final Experience Run for Level 50 (Sorcerer, Single Player)

To people who are wondering why his character is so low on life, and why he doesn't bother to heal up, is because the way how hit-recovery(the flinching animation that plays when you get hit) system works in this game. When the character's life is lower than the character's level, or incoming attack damage, your character does not play this hit-recovery animation, because the game thinks you're about to get hit by a literal death blow. "Why bother play hit-recovery when you die?" was apparently what they're going. This is why he only has 15 life and doesn't bother to heal up. There is also a spell in this game called 'Mana Shield', which absorbs *ALL* damage by mana. So instead of your life, your mana will be depleted when you get hit. This is the method he choose to tank all the damage. Combine these two mechanics into one, you have a character who not only doesn't flinch towards any kinds of attack at all, but also never die, as long as his mana is remaining. And his character has like 950 mana, so it is virtually impossible for him to flinch nor die.

When your character is so strong the game engine can't keep with all the sprites for your spells. Most old games had op mages and it was always so much fun.

yes, this was a real problem with chain lightning, it would be even stronger without the sprite limit! People even didn't level it up all the way to reduce the number of projectiles.

Ah, nostalgia! Like for a video, I haven't ever get to lvl 50, though my gear was slightly better (I did Lazarus runs a lot in a late game and was 44th lvl). As for the gear I used to wear such set up in PVP, as for PVE I lost all my stuff twice when teleporting into a bunch of blue vipers and hitting quit AFTER got killed, so I started to prefer DEF over damage. While sacrificing +3 to all skills you get like smth like 190 additional armour. Since +spell lvl affects more or less only fire ball, which is op even on lvl 16, I used Royal Circlet (40 ARM, +10 All attr, +40 Mana), Full plate (70-75 def, +120%, +20 Magic), and Stormshield (40 AC, +10 str, Fast block). In order to carry it one needs 2 suffixes of zodiac in jewelry and 2 prefixes of obsidian, since there is no res on my gear other,, the reast is ether +Magic/Mana. Also like for an abuse of fhr.

This is one of the best videos on KZbin. Such a pristine charm. All is lined-up in perfect harmony. What a nice display of a professional player, and in-game speech sounds just perfectly complement the whole Bon-Voyage. No shot displayed until level 13/Hell and an in-game speech sound : "I must be getting close". Just going through the crypt, catacombs, pit, like a lion, without a single shot, teleporting toward a destination, poised to strike in the right moment to be in the right time in the right place. After all, no shot has been required. No matter that all monsters tried to stagger a character, the character just flowed through 13 levels without the single shot, without a drop of blood, effortlessly, teleporting toward the destination with 100% mana shield, no HP spared, no potion required - true sorcerer, an opposite of a true warrior. 100% confidence, 100% flow, pure entertainment. And only in level 13 the full scale of spells is revealed. Like Gandalf said in LOTR 1 - It is easy to overspill the blood, but it is much more wise to spare the life because you do not know what a role a spared character is yet to play in the chain of events. This is a nice swan song of a sorcerer-professional, very cool video, pure entertainment and art. Splendid.

So after this video youtube sugested to me a diablo 1 speedrun where funkmaster explains that there is a game mechanic if the hp is les than the character level then the player cant be stun by the mobs...

In d1 vanilla and hellfire spec is the best class but in beezlebub expansion idk I feel they made most of the monsters have immunity to magic at higher difficulty levels

@ well what are you doing that makes it so easy to get to level 50. I played game after game with getting little experience points to level up. Might have taken me another 100 times through the complete game to get to the next level without cheats.

@ I always just wanted to max out the proper way. But it gets to the point where you fight and fight and don't get a single point until you are down to about level 13, then you play to the end getting very few points and needing to bridge levels needing millions of points. Not sure the game was ever designed to max out in a legit kill everything way. Just watching some Funkmastermp videos to see if I can pick up some tips. Seems you can get a lot of gold before you even enter the church, which means a lot less trips to town.

I'm not using a mod, I've removed those comments. You need to play on higher difficulties to get exp later on. For single player, you need to first start a multiplayer game on that difficulty, and then switch to Singleplayer (since you can't directly pick difficulty in Singleplayer). There was an annotation explaining it in the video, but youtube removed annotations.

You wont get exp off hell horrors, advocates, snow witches, hell spawn, soul burners, blood knights, steel lords, or doom guards. So youll be doing dlvl 9-13 a literal 200 times from clvl 45-50 lol

Analyzing your item choices and playstyle, you're more likely to be better off with any "Shield of Brilliance" (Magic +15) than with any of the game's unique shields. IIRC, you really don't need the Fast Block ability with the style you're going for (you don't block when casting, and you already won't be stunned if hit thanks to the Mana Shield bug you are using (which is great and legit btw)). Also, although it would sacrifice 12 Mana Potion slots, you could save a lot of time and do better by having 2 Bountiful Staves of Apocalypse with 36 charges each to deal with the many either triple immune or very magic-resistant mobs in hell. (For example, Diablo's floor, 16, with the Apostles, which are guaranteed to appear every playthrough, and are quicker to deal with than going through floors 1 to 13 all over again in a new playthrough.)

I forgot to mention (since, judging from the end of the video, perhaps you don't know it?), but the Apocalypse spell, despite being all "fire-y", is the ONLY multi-targeting damaging spell in the game that is element-neutral. Meaning even triple immune mobs die to it rather quickly. Its power is also NOT amplified by spell levels (meaning your armor and cap would be indifferent for that spell in particular), but rather by your character level. Just thought I'd share the knowledge with another fellow Diablo enthusiast.

Okay Stu I know this run is very old but i have some questions: Why don't you use Civerb's Cudgel. The +200% vs Daemons is also affecting Spells. Your Chain Lightning is level 15 causing some issues if the sprites get over 255. Why not go lower on this? You are running with low armor class. How does this affect hell? my current sorc has 190 AC and I'm quite happy with it.

Civerb's Cudgel sounds pretty OP, I didn't know about that interaction! I don't know if I found one, but if I did I certainly threw it away. But to be fair a lot of enemies already die in one hit anyways ;) I know Naj's Plate is not optimal, but I like it for the flair. I also didn't feel like shopping armors at Wirt, I believe that's the only place to get the best ones. The game is honestly quite easy for a high level sorcerer, so optimizing every slot isn't really needed. Also low AC isn't that bad when you're doing the low HP trick. Chain lightning is probably at 15 because of Enchanted Shrines or because I leveled it before finding the +spells equipment :)

@@StuGames depending on what you want, most of the best armors in the game can only drop in deep levels. The merchants have a price cap. Yesterday i bought the most expensive item from wirt I've ever seen: Dragon's Amulet of the Zodiac 16/54 123k gold. Yeah the sorcerer is very op.

I remember if you played standard diablo 1 offline you would reach level 28 - 29 by the time you faced diablo. That's if you thouroughly explored every inch of the map and slaughtered everything. Also it was funny how you couldn't find all of the spells and it was mostly by chance if you'd get a decent spell book.

Adria restocks spell books every once in a while that’s how i got golem, chain lightning, and fireball. If i didn’t yeah my spell book would’ve been unplayable (and i was sorcerer)

You can start a new game with an existing character. Go to your character, and instead of "load" choose "new game". That will start a new game but you'll keep your character's stats and gear.

With his gear approach he need only one suffix of Zodiac (he has it) and one prefix of +All res (at least 35 res) All other slots should be either +30 Mag or +60 MP. So if his ring was +35 res and the other ring was +30 Mag, +60 MP, his jewelry would be perfect. No need to have especially Obsidian smth of zodiac. Zodiac is needed only in 2 cases - 1) you need strength to wear heavy gear. 2)You need 100 dex to max out you awesome fastest block so to block constantly once in 0.1 sec. But overall I kind of agree that's a bit strange :)

I was wondering why chain lightning isn't maxed, surprising. I'd just take normal gear Level 15, go for heavens sword - heavens full plate, heavens shield, heavens helm - have so much dex that nobody could hit you, have an insane mana pool and everything would be deleted by Level 15 spells in seconds anyways.Hella weird there's no Zodiacs rings or amulets, that's some bad RNG - normally by L35 I have at least two - Level 50 is like - impossible to not have them drop. I think it's cool as shit you have full BiS for uniques though, I still have never seen Naj's plate personally. I can't imagine how much time you spent shrining out the bonus durability for thinking cap for max extra skills build - I'd estimate something like 30+ hours tele shrine farming. Also I wonder how long L19 Firewall sticks around for, Level 1-2 is perfect for duration but it just keeps getting longer causing Firewall to be SUPER ANNOYING. They should have just kept it all the same duration so you'd want to keep using it.

@@StuGames I honestly think that you cheated slightly with your lvl. My max lvl was 45 (3 time less experience than for 50 + there is a penalty on further levelling) and I had all stats maxed on 38th or smth with elexirs, so when the next lvl gives you 5 pts you cannot spend them cz your stats are maxed. So you always have that annoying red plus sign on your left, but in a video you don't. That's not a big deal tbh, even in that case you have at least level 40 and there is almost no diff between 40 and 50 for mage as mage scales less from lvl compared to rouge and warrior. PS. On the other hand you used a bug with difficuly reset, so you were able to be levelling on hell difficulty. But that red plus is still making me suspisious...

Blizzard could make a lotta money charging 10$ or something! Diablo 1 discs are found in the diablo batttle chests! ( bundled box with d1 d2 and d2e) I dont think they are selling d1 discs at game stores or blizzard anymore , but ez to get one off ebay, amazon etc.( Also, im playing D1 on windows 10 right now!)

Hm...ich verstehe zwar nicht, warum der nur noch 4 Lebenspunkte hat, aber der Spruch, daß Mana statt LP abgezogen wird, macht das bei über 900 wohl eh irrelevant...Spielmechaniken, die heute kaum mehr vorstellbar sind mit Autoregeneration und so weiter. Von der Gestaltung her ist Diablo 1 immer noch der beste Teil. Teil 2 war schon deutlich weniger gorig, warum auch immer.

Die niedrigen HP haben einen Grund: Man wird nicht gestunnt, wenn man den Schlag ohne das Manashield nicht überleben würde. Damit kann man viel rücksichtsloser spielen.
