Pretty sure she is a direct reference to Countess Elizabeth Bathory, who was also believed to bathe in the blood of virgin women to keep her beauty, and who was also a vampire in popular media, old school blizz used to do that a lot, referencing classic characters of various sources.

There is a story IRL for The Bloody Countess. If you are interested, Dash. Her name was Erzebet Bathory from Hungary. The clergy claimed that she was a dark magic apprentice and obsessed with eternal beauty. There are official documents that support and describe the 650 dead young women that she (as clergy said) brutally murdered, impaled and bled out. In fact, she was related to Vlad Tepes... An interesting story, nevertheless. You read it from an avocado 🥑

Yesss I was going to add real life history but didnt, which I now regret!
@roetheboat13 жыл бұрын
Interestingly enough, there's a very real possibility that Erzsébet Báthory was framed due to religious and political tensions in the country of Hungary. The 650 victim count came from a servant by the name of Susannah who served Jakab Szilvássy, one of Báthory's court attendants. The servant girl claimed that Szilvássy had seen the 650 victim count in a private book that Báthory kept. This private book was never brought up at the trial, nor did Szilvássy mention it in his testimony. In fact, the only "concrete" number (concrete in that the witnesses had tortured before 'admitting' to having also been involved) was 36 women. A lot of the "evidence" that we see today was either contradicted by György Thurzó (the lead investigator) or can be traced to having been invented years after Erzsébet Báthory's death. The man who was tasked with leading the investigation, György Thurzó, stood to benefit financially and politically if Erzsébet Báthory was out of the way. Thurzó's only son, Imre, was married to a woman by the name of Krisztina. Krisztina was related to the Báthory family on her mother's side, which meant that if Erzsébet Báthory and her heir were to be disposed of a good chunk of their wealth would fall to Krisztina and Imre. The biggest rival of Imre's generation was Erzsébet's son, named Pál Nádasdy. When you also consider the fact that the Báthory family ruled the separate region of Transylvania (today the eastern part of Hungary, but at the time a separate country) and held enough military and political power to potentially invade the western part of Hungary using the lands owned by Erzsébet Báthory, it makes sense that the king in Hungary would be willing to put up with György Thurzó's fake accusations. Furthermore, a lot of the accusations of torture and abuse at the hands of Erzsébet Báthory sounded very similar to medical practices that had been recorded as being used in the area Erzsébet grew up in. These included practices such as bloodletting, use of female midwives, and other surgical techniques that could have been potentially beneficial. However, in an age before anesthetics, they would have also been very painful. Medical texts from that time period would have prescribed the use of hot metal tongs to remove infected tissues and cauterize the open wounds at the same time. There were also various disease outbreaks all across the area and surrounding countries of smallpox, typhus, and bubonic plague (IE the Black Death). Treatments for those would have involved lancing the boils. One of the symptoms for bubonic plague is drowsiness, so patients couldn't be allowed to sleep as much as they would have wanted to. Diarrhea is also a symptom, and since hot/warm water is difficult to come by it meant that the patients who desperately wanted to sleep and were also constantly going to the bathroom would have been doused in cold water. As for the accusations from members of the clergy, it would be important to know that Erzsébet Báthory was a Calvinist in charge of an area dominated by the Lutheran faith. Even so, there doesn't appear to be any evidence of her restricting the freedom of Lutheran ministers. János Ponikénusz was the pastor of the town in which she lived in, and was also one of the main sources of accusations against her. In one letter to György Thurzó, the pastor accused Báthory of being able to turn into a black cat and then stalking him. Overall, I'd say that Erzsébet Báthory was likely no worse than any other noble of that time period in that area. She was married to her husband for 28 years (also refused to take his last name and retained her own, which may have irked some) and when he was away fighting against invading military forces from the Ottoman Empire she was tasked with managing his lands. From what survives of the records, it would appear that she was a competent manager who made fair decisions. Had she not fallen due to political and religious infighting in Hungary, chances are she'd only be remembered by historians who study that particular time period and area.

Elizabeth Báthory 7 August 1560 - 21 August 1614, the Bloody Countess of Hungary, who owned land in the Kingdom of Hungary, her former domain was split to what is now modern Hungary, Slovakia and Romania, regarded with much fear and superstition, the total death total reaped by her was never fully counted as most records were very sporty, but it's estimated by some that either 300 or 650 young women, virgins, had died by her hands, most of them poor peasant girls, a handful of ladies in waiting, some daughters of former nobles or bastards, rare nuns and sisters who were disowned by their families on the account of them being born their respective genders, their deaths were not pleasant ones they were tortured,
