You cannot tell in this video. If you look at the area in sections: There are 3 red souls that appear to be trapped/tortured. The one by the cage is Cain from D2, the one North of the water well is Cain from D1 and the one to the West is Cain from D3. If you go to the edges: You can see the catacombs below Tristram and that you are surround by lava and tormented souls. If you go into the buildings, starting with the NE building (which in the video, the player stops by for a moment) You can see the corpse is holding a world stone shard or soulstone and every once in a while the corpses look at it and gasp. After the wolf unseals the door and you go into that room. There is another corpse that has a soulstone and he is trying to remove it from his own head. To the W of the portal there is a 3rd corpse that has the soulstone bursting from its' chest. All of these things greatly symbolize the connections between Deckard Cain and Diablo. They both have three representations of them from each D1, D2, D3 and Diablo has always been represented by fire/lava/ and literally being in Hell.

Could those guys with the soulstones be the heroes from the previous games? I'm not sure since in D1 and D2 at least the heroes had the soulstones in their forehead, here instead you can see a hole in their chests. In d2 we learn that it was Tal Rasha who had a souldstone in his chest, while holding and fighting Baal to contain him. So I'm a little unsure. Maybe they could just represent the state of emprisonnement of diablo, mephisto and baal

Man. Tristram. Now there's a place that has gotten the rough end of it through the years, and its fascinating in a morbid way to see what has eventually become of the town. I still remember Cain's dialogue from the first game where he explains that Ogden had spent all of his money on buying the local tavern, after having worked there for years. Imagine his reaction if someone had told him what Tristram would eventually become.

My Theory is that Lilith wants to bring everything to heel, and that includes both heaven and hell. The Prime Evils probably still exist somewhere in their hellish realms, and they sure as Hell (Hehe) don't want to relinquish power to her, so they have nothing to do but work with the player in order to keep their presence in Sanctuary. So they send the Bloodied Wolf to show guide you in a way completely different from what the High Heavens and the horadrim would do.

Damn. Tristram can't catch a break, but considering it's ground zero for the entirety of the Diablo series, from a scared town to a zombie wasteland, and now looking like a nuclear blast site. On brand, at least. The longer Hell's influence is in the area, the worse it gets. Feels like a return to form, though. The game so far seems to have gone back to its foreboding and horror roots. @@Belanduraz I don't think it's an illusion. The wolf took us here to get out of the one we were already in and to show us the consequences if should fail. The wolf didn't say it was an illusion, just that this was the result of building a town near one of the prisons of the prime evils. The wolf could be lying and twisting the truth as demons tend to do. But being that heaven has shut its doors, and left humanity to its own devices, the idea that evil engulfed Tristram soon after is not hard to believe. The fields of hatred exist because Mephisto's hatred bubbles up into certain places in Sanctuary. The idea that Diablo's own corruption was allowed to run rampant....if we are ever to return to Tristram in future games, it will likely be for raiding purposes. The little town is finished at this point, as it's become a literal hellscape. Its story was told, and now its memory only serves as a warning.

yes i´m with you.. i´m happy that i am not the only one 😄. why? the wolf is half dead. he is a resurrected creature with carved symbols in his skull like he is a kind of "golem". who is able to revive the dead? 2nd the whole 1st act seems to be rathma-related. with all the prophecy going around. his prophecy is the first thing they tell us/show us about in the tiny village at the beginning when that townguy draggs you around meanwhile humming and the lines of the prophecy blend in and the first act ends (more or less) with the prophecy that rathma will die anyway and that inarius is not "the light" that will pierce through the heart of hatred. and that he will not/or maybe never go back to the heavens again. remember we got the blessing of prava not from inarius. come on inarius is so selfish. he weakend his own children in the past because he was afraid of them being so powerful and now he is whining about how weak humans are and how fcking useless they are in his eyes 🤷‍♀ and angels are pure fanatics, worse then demons. 3rd the wolf is talking about how chaotic everything is now and liked it more how it was before. trag´oul and/or rathma are the bearer of balance in that world. thats why the priests of rathma are coming back..they have to do rathmas work keeping the balance and later they show the huge picture of the serpent in the temple of the firstborn when lilith arrives and found rathma already dead. soo many hints on trag´ oul in my opinion. maybe he will play a specific role in the story...i would love to see it. i dont care if i´m wrong.yes even if it is maphistos mark on the skull.. but would be nice to see these characters in game :D

As someone in the lore channel of the D4 server mentioned, the Bloodied Wolf has a very high chance of being Mephisto. From the starting cinematic, you can see the marking on his skull which is pretty much spot on the Mark of Hatred that Adria used to imprison Mephisto as shown in the Book of Adria. This means that Lilith's daddy has a plan of his own when it comes to the story of D4, maybe even as "He who was bound in chains" that will be set free when Lilith dies according to the in-game prophecy of Rathma.

The more I read about Lucion, Lilith’s brother, the more I am convinced the wolf is him. The reason I doubt it’s Mephisto is his voice. Mephisto has a more rasp, wraith-like voice. The rune on his forehead is what makes people being sure it’s Mephisto, but I think that seal could be seen as a badge of office in Hell, marking demons who belong to Mephisto’s court. Lucion was the second-in-command at his father’s side so he would deffinitely have the reason to wear his father’s seal. The line where he says he prefered the world how it was before Lilith’s rebellion tells a lot too. His life was simpler and meaningful at his father’s side. His death also sounds suspicious, because it never happened again that a demon was permanently killed. I think he faked his death for some reason and enjoyed as everyone was scared by the nephilim because of it.

It's Sin War 2: Electric Boogaloo except we're the wild card nobody accounted for that'll yeet them all off of Sanctuary.

The one thing that genuinely intrigues me is the fact that the Wolf *warns* the player at the end that something bad is about to happen to the Horadrim and that we should stay away when that happens. If he really is an avatar or even a Greater Evil (like most of us have assumed) , why would he do that?

I like some things about Diablo IV but there are many dislikes too. One improvement could be that this vision of Tristram could include the same old town depicted in Diablo II Resurrected graphics with the same building layout and such. They could show the town when most of it's inhabitants were alive like Griswold the blacksmith, Gillian the barmaid, Ogden the innkeeper, Pepin the healer, Wirt the Peg-Legged Boy, Deckard Cain the elder from the order of the Horadrim, Farnham the drunk, Tremain the priest and if the area map were to be a bit bigger even Adria the witch within her hut that was a couple distance away from the town. And in another glimpse you could now open your eyes to see the town in ruins, the long extinguished fires that burned away all the wooden materials and the thatched roofs of all the houses and other buildings within the town. Cain's cage and the fountain that are seen here too but also Griswold undead corpse with the ground, Farnham skeleton remains laying beside a big rock like we see in the Tristram of old school Diablo 2 graphics, Wirt's one legged body laying at the edge of the town and even the bodies of the undead and demonic monsters slain by the band if heroes during the events if Diablo 2 where they save Cain.

This is probably Vasily/Fiacla-Géar - one of the first generation Nephalim who most likely lived through/witnessed Lillith’s banishment and the subsequent imprisonment of Inarius by Mephisto (as part of the peace pact with the Angiris Council). Vasily is essentially the progenitor of all druids in the same manner as Rathma was the first necromancer. Bul-Kathos and Vasily are brothers, the latter settling in Scosglen while the former deciding to live closer to Mt. Arreat.

One other thing I want to see beside this bloodied wolf form being Lucion and his return caused by the return of his sister is also other notable demons. The lesser evils Duriel the Lord of Pain and Andariel the Maiden if Anguish could have bigger roles here within Diablo IV. Andariel should have a bigger part, some lines and one instance where she escapes our grasp and Duriel should be more that the jailor of Archangel Tyrael with one simple line. We should feel the devastating effects of pain from the Lord of Pain himself and feel the same corruption from Andariel like she did in Diablo 2. The other two lesser evils Belial and Azmodan should be given a return too. Mephisto hatred should inflict a lot more damage within Sanctuary, Baal destruction should lay waste and Diablo should being terror to the masses and honor it's namesake. Other notable demons like the very inteligent and patient Kabraxis from the Medial XL mod of Diablo 2 should make an appearance and make the prime evils fear him again. Astrogha the spider demon should command all giant spider annomalies within Sanctuary and bring terror honouring his master, Diablo.

The symbol of Hatred is carved into the wolf skull. Is most likely Mephisto or an agent of his. Lucion was fully and truly destroyed into nothingness by the strongest nephalem ever(the only time that’s ever happened)never to be reborn. Lilith’s return doesn’t prove anything of his return as she was just locked away. Kabraxis is not canon. The only non-demon lords to give the 7 evils pause were the Hammer Lords that control the fringes of hell.(Somehow, never gets explained past that in any detail)

At first I thought it is trag’oul because him and rathma could switch dimensions, and he is against horadrim while rathma and trag’oul were knowledgable in balance so they have educated opinion. He’s speaking of “what’s to come” saying the horadrim will mess up like it is written out in a prophecy like rathma made. I also really like the idea of it being lucion lilliths brother: he isn’t “dead” technically. Just thought out of existence. There could be loopholes that free him, but how else could he be tied to this? He can shape shift. But how does he know the horadrim will mess up and give advice to player to not to be there when they do? Uldyssian also thought himself out of existence too kinda, and mendeln or Kalan retained his knowledge. Maybe the wolf could be mendeln? He also trained with trag’oul and rathma. He’s thought to be deceased due to age but people have survived the passage of time like in diablo 3 the sorc companion.

This place doesnt make sense. It's not how tristram ended. But also I dont know what the timeline for events in this game is. I saw some texts about the horadrim guy named Lorat, so that leads me to thinking it's no more than 100 years after D3 events, there is no way tristram looks like this in reality. It is some sort of vision this wolf is forcing on us, to scare us away from walking the "good path". I did like the vibes here tho, but I feel like music is not giving the justice in this place.
