Made mine in an eth balrog blade and rolled 339% Ed. Pretty pleased with that. Haven’t used it yet tho

I'm going to do a "living off the land" challenge in a little while, where i can only use items i find, i can't buy items, i can't repair items, can't use deckard cain, the only thing i can use vendors for is quest rewards. I can't even resurrect hirelings, i can't even hire them, so the free one you get in act 1 is the only one i get to have. This runeword is most likely going to be my late game weapon as the runes are moderately easy to obtain, is indestructible and has good damage potential. Now this challenge is rather easy to do with casters so barb all the way for the extra challenge.

The hardest part about this rune word is getting that ethereal elite base that can get four open sockets. I've made one oath in an ethereal Balrog blade and have another set of runes for oath to be used but I haven't found another good base yet. Easily the best budget rune word in regards of power and and cost, especially since it makes hell difficulty so much easier than using a kings grace or a passion.

Curious how you think an ethereal Highlands Blade would compare to the Balrog? I have one sitting around and would appreicate any input.

And other hard part is to hit good over 300% damage, variation between Increased damage is insane, they should limit it do 290-340 at least I got Feral axe ethereal with 4 sockets, which aldready has very fast attack speed. But hiting good dmg will be hard

IIRC the Bone Spirits it procs often just fly away into the aether instead of hitting the target. Not sure if anything changed in D2R in that regard, or if it is at all affected by weapon range, and the distance between you and your target, last time I used one was in a colossus sword. I wanted to use it on a proc necro, but ultimately got discouraged because of it.

If you are using wisp projector you can swtch weapons and keep HotW.

Go outside and cast Heart of Wolverine from the NON Etheral Oath, Wisp Projector (ring) will allow to keep HoW (can even take off Oath, put CTA and battle-order it)

Sometimes they put indestructible on very fast melee weapons to keep repair costs down. I think the intent was to use a non-ethereal weapon at least in the mind of the designer.

Contrary to what you might think, it's the excessive chance to proc Bone Spirit that sabotages this weapon. In practice, you can only whack your target 2-3 times before Bone Spirit interrupts you with its casting delay. So you're sacrificing a continuous volley of hard physical damage hits for a sporatic low-power stream of magic spells. This may not make much difference with trash mobs, but it can noticeably impede your boss-killing speed.

So quick question. If you were to theoretically have an Oath in both weapon sets, and you spawned the Heart of the Wolverine with one, would it disappear when you flipped weapon sets?

In PD2 I needed 2 oaths for my throw barb, so I made them in like a long sword and dimensional blade cuz it was just for the wolverine. Rolled one a perfect 340ed 15absorb. What a troll, I never get above 300 when I actually need one for melee. Super sick weapon for HC though.

Nice video. I never make this ruin word since I would like to make it in a 2 handed mace but not sure which ones that would work in. I know the one handed maces can only have 3 open sockets so I am not completely confident about the mace items in particular.

You can make it flail/knout/scourge. You can't make it in mauls unfortunately as the game treats them as hammer class.

Just made this in eth collosus sword for my zerk trav barb. Two handed it is BRUTAL! Finishes trav in a few seconds, 1-3 shotting everything, no howl needed. I dont know why I never made this. I dont miss grief.

Holy cow this runeword! i just swapped off kingslayer over to oath and wow! I was concerned with the no -defense or ignore defense but that bone spirit proc rips things to shreds. I also used a phase blade despite the indestructible mod in it. the bonus to that, phase blades are fast attacking :P Edit: i did however notice that Baal took a noticeably longer time to beat using an oath PB over a Kingslayer PB. I suggest swapping to something that has some defense hate instead of outright magic damage on it for him. Other then him i have not found anything else that can resist the power of this runeword.

Hello, I just found an astreons iron ward with a plus 49 damage mod, 139-161 base damage, +3 combat skills, 152% bonus to AR, 6 flat DR, kinda low but anyways, I did also make an oath runeword in a berserker axe for a roll of 99-294. In comparing the two, to be used on shape shift druid, zealot pally or frenzy barb: Do you know which one is better and if so why?

Managed to roll one on an Ethereal Cryptic Sword with 340% ED two years ago. Admittedly it took a lot of Pul Mal and Hel Runes as well as Town Scrolls to get the perfect roll. Worked very well as the weapon of my second Zealadin.

I think there are better choices, this is a decent weapon for sure but it's chosen mainly due to it's indestructability for players because it can be made in an ethereal base and not break. Mercenaries however don't break ethereal weapons so you can make them any runeword in an ethereal base or find very good uniques in the ethereal form and give those to them. Eth Headstriker is literally one of the strongest weapons the Act 5 merc can use. and an Eth Crescent moon isn't too shabby either.

Depends on your build, most would say grief without a second thought. But the issue is griefs damage mechanism doesn't work for a large variety of skills like vengeance, or blade fury as an example.

eth is a 50% boost to base, not just a 50% boost. So say a weapon had 400% ed it's not 450% ed because of the Ethereal It works much better. Say you have 50 weapon damage +400% ed that is 250 damage If the 50 Eth just added to the ED it would be +450% which is 275 But Since Eth Adds to the Base damage instead it is 50+50%+400% which = 375 Superior is a 15% boost which adds to ED so if you have a 400% ED item with a Superior 15% it works out as 415%

I thought about it, but since bone spirit only hits one target I felt it wouldn't be worth it compares to bone spear synergy which pierces targets.

Might be a year late, but in LoD I tried a fully synergized, moderately geared Oath + Bone RW Necromancer without relying on Corpse Explosion; only melee and curses. Skill allocation is entirely like a normal bone necro. It's serviceable enough to slowly beat each area of Hell. While there might be a setup in D2R that makes it a tad stronger, it is definitely not a build you want to use if your goal is to complete a Holy Grail or reach 99, lol. Thankfully, you can always just choose to use Corpse Explosion. Gear up a mercenary so they can kill a single target then grab some form of teleport (rare amulet/shop for a staff/Enigma) and you can practically wear whatever gear you want on a Necro as long as your goal isn't to farm above players 1. It's fun to rock a two-handed ethereal sword, a great helm and full plate armor on a necro sometimes, optimal item bases be damned.
