I think one of the single most impactful things we could do to unblock progress on so many environmental issues is to make lobbying illegal. I don't understand how it is anything except legal bribery. Companies should not be able to throw millions or billions of dollars at a problem to make it go away in this way. Like Phil always says, it's just a cost of doing business. They throw that money at the problem because they know that preventing change will allow them to make that money back

Your wife is in the very very slim minority of having a career that’s fulfilling. Most women do crap jobs for crap pay and therefore it’s not hard to assume that they would rather be at home/ with their kids. Heck, im a bloke and I’d rather be at home then in the office… this isn’t a crazy take
@evalynn1863
@evalynn1863 Ай бұрын
@@ducksquidbat8315 No. This isn’t about whether having a job is more or less fulfilling than not having a job. It’s about the fact that he singled out women and said they would not feel fulfillment if they didn’t follow the sexist belief that women belong in the kitchen serving their man. Having his babies, making his food, and rubbing his feet when he gets home because he works so hard all day and women can’t do that! 🙄 women can find fulfillment with a career. They can find fulfillment without a career and without children. They can find fulfillment in traveling, in cooking, in building, in crafting, in healing, in ANY tasks they do. Not just at home being a little wifie and mommy. And it is absolutely fucking mind blowing that anyone thinks it’s acceptable for a man to tell women where they’ll find the most fulfillment when they have just spent as much time, money, and energy as they have into getting a degree and pursuing what fulfills them.

I'm for the states having the power opposed to the federal government. Yes it went in a way that you liked before. But what happens if the federal government decides it's not allowed? Then girls don't just have to drive to a different state, they have to go to a different country. If those states want abortion then the pro-choicers in those states need to make it happen.

I’m a religious woman. I just completely blow this stuff off. I’ve heard it my whole life. Women in the Bible worked, so idk why men get this idea that ancient women just laid on their back all day waiting to be impregnated and then cooked food while pregnant. The cultures and societies in the Bible are vastly different than ours, but women were still very important. (Also… why do we have to behave exactly how an ancient culture behaved? It’s 2024).

In my opinion, "clipped out of context" is overused. Most of the time, the clip is perfectly understood "without context", because "in context" it has the same speech signifiers to argue for the same opinions. When someone says "men set the culture" and basically blames weak men for the cultural decline, you do not really need much more. The only thing that would change with context is if just before he had said "and these are not my opinions, I am just quoting them verbatim: Men..." other than that, there wasn't really going to be a change.

I don't think we can get worse than a cop using a leaf blower to search the yard, never taking any measurements of any sort to lay out the scene, so that no one knows where the body was.... and then it was revealed they collected the blood sample in solo cups and held in an open brown bag, which were never secured and marked as being in the evidence locker. They disappear after collection, and only show up again....next to the car, and the tail light pieces that they're saying have blood in. The tail light pieces were also found after they took her car, and the cop on the case was fired for his misconduct, including an illegal search of her phone that he bragged about looking for her nudes on. There are so many inconsistencies with this "investigation" and case. The Defense has already torn apart the "confession" being heard by the Emergency Responders. What drives me absolutely bonkers about the overdose deaths is that this country is always looking for “how did they get these drugs” instead of “why?” Like if you listen to the people who get addicted to this stuff it’s usually because they’re in pain. They got underlying conditions, problems with managing pain, can’t afford to go to a doctor or don’t have the time, and they got to go to work the next day to survive. What else are they supposed to escape to??? I swear to god if we got universal free healthcare tomorrow we’d start to see opioid deaths go down over the next year, drastically. Getting diagnosed with things like autism, adhd, and endometriosis is legit the reason I was able to quit cannabis and thats legal here in Canada. I did not realise how much I was using it to self medicate until I actually got answers and medications to help me control my symptoms. I did try cannabis once again recently and just felt disinterested in it and like it was a waste of money after smoking because for once it wasnt needed to help me get through a day and reduce my symptoms. I am glad I recognized my additive personality before my diagnosis making me stay away from anything harder than legal cannabis and that I hate the taste of alcohol because the detox of those would be so much harder on my body. I so easily couldve been seen as just another addict when it turns out I just needed proper medical care. Sure we dont have universal drug plan coverage (but I am broke enough that my province has a plan for low income and it has covered my meds 100% including my concerta for adhd which without any insurance is 200$ every 30 days) But I never had to pay to see my Drs or get a psychologist because we do have universal health care. Its not perfect and some things need to change because wait times for some things through our public health care is insanely long. (It took a year for me to get any MRI for a thankfully harmless mass on my liver) But considering how much I am struggling financially, I dont hesitate to go see my Dr. when anything happens or to go to a walk in clinics because I know I will get the care I need and dont have to worry about if I can afford to eat if I do. The only medical expense I have had to pay in the last year is physiotherapy because my weak ass body failed me and I got turf toe from pivoting on my foot inside while wearing shitty slip on shoes and I was on crutches for 8 months just because I couldnt justify the 80$ a visit for a while and my job would let me sit on a stool as a cashier to accomodate me. So yeah. Our system isnt perfect but I am so thankful I dont have the American system. Side note if you read this far: Its super fucked up that Americans pay the most taxes world wide in $ per capita that is funding health care for any developed country, yet American health care is still out of pocket. Like I cant imagine having the "wrong doctor" treat me so the insurance can tell me I have to pay full price out of pocket even if the medical centre is listed as covered by that insurance. Hell Canada is even trying to roll out a basic universal dental plan which for people like me cant afford it and dont have insurance would be amazing. I have no idea how the US could introduce universal health care because so much of the money they put into it is administrative costs for those insurance companies they implemented and they would have to tear the whole system down but Americans are already paying more in taxes for healthcare than anyone else world wide and still get scammed and double dipped because the system is so broken. Another side note. I dont like the idea of for profit health care. It incentives worse care for monetary gain because the new more expensive drugs and medical equipment will so often be sold as "best treatment" Sorry for the rant. As a Canadian when I hear other Canadians try to justify the American system and praise it bothers me. Like I said, our system isnt perfect and the problems it has do need to be addressed, but I never have to worry if the pain is bad enough to justify seeing a doctor just because I have to justify if my health is worth the money. I am happy american doctors do get paid well. But way to much money is wasted in so many other aspects of it considering in 2023, 1.5 TRILLION USD was the amount the American Govt spent on healthcare. It feels like the American Govt just wants to burn the money instead of using it to help people. I get real heated on this topic.

Harrison Butker’s speech outlines the scary truth about Christianity/Catholicism in the USA. I grew up in a Christian family, and went to private Christian schools my entire life. This IS how modern day American Christians think about women and our place in American society. The reality is that most of the powerful people in our country share these beliefs and that’s why our laws are slowly beginning to incorporate Christian ethics and reasoning into them. The most prominent of which is abortion rights . I have many friends who will simply ignore important issues in America ( health care/ taxes/ human rights/ cost of living/ gun reform) all because they believe one candidate is more favored by God than another. That’s scary.

I mean…western Christianity for sure. I’m a believer and I don’t agree with what he said. My life began when I gave my life to Christ. Not when I got married. And definitely not when I have children. Someone’s or some people’s twisting of the scripture doesn’t change the truth of it. I believe We are literally living in the curse of Adam and Eve. If you read Genesis, when he punished them for eating from the tree he cursed the woman with a specific curse along the lines of “you will desire to control your husband, but he will rule over you.” A-la our gender war, our fight for rights, our long sordid history with the patriarchy. This was NEVER God’s intention for relationships between men and women. We were always considered equal in the eyes of God. It’s crazy though, we’ve done so much to mitage the effects of the other curses: painful child birth, working for monetary gain as incentive. But are still struggling to create true equality between men and women, not just societally but in the hearts and minds of individual people. I dunno maybe it’s just my Bible conspiracy brain 😭 but if you look deeply at those curses that were given to Adam and Eve you see it play out every day in the modern world. Kinda scary.

The problem with talking points about “absentee fathers” and correlating it with crime is that it often targets black and brown communities. Communities where we know men and boys are over policed and over punished. It’s a racist dog whistle that’s used to make it seem like it’s a “masculinity” issue when it’s a race and over policing issue.

Well there are also higher divorce rates and reported cheating rates in those communities. Poor people in general seem to have a higher propensity to create single family homes even discounting arresting fathers out of homes, and black people tend to have higher levels of poverty. It also isn't "black and brown people," as this disproportionate distribution of single parent homes affects specifically black people
@kolider2315

It's not a racist dog whistle. The data bear out that, across all groups, living in a single parent household increases rates of mental illness and behavioral issues. The communities have have the highest rates of single parent households are typically poorer, and these poorer neighborhoods tend to be disproportionately minority. The same problems exist across races, poor white communities in the south and Appalachia have the exact same issues. The causes of these wealth problems are worth discussing, but the source of these criticisms are not racial.
@FNLNFNLN
@FNLNFNLN Ай бұрын
@@kolider2315 Nah, it's 100% a race thing. It's the same deal as how white and black people use drugs at the same rates, but black people get arrested for it way more often. Just because the data shows one thing doesn't mean the stereotype can't say something else.

I feel like there are plenty of other long term uses for plastic that can continue being allowed - and this from a very pro-environmental person. But my belief boils down to: disposable plastics should ONLY be used in settings like you mentioned, medical, where sterilization is top priority. Otherwise, all single-use [short term] plastics should frankly just stop being produced. I specify short-term because the plastic in a car is technically considered single use; but that car is meant to exist for longer than a day, a month, even a couple years. The plastic parts on that are incredibly useful and critical these days. Same for computers and a lot of tech. But anything that can/is thrown away after one use - I'm looking at all the sandwich bags, grocery bags, toothbrush or hairbrush packaging so you can "see" your item - we can make biodegradable clear "bio-plastic" for at this point.

I'm just so exhausted all the time. I feel like I HAVE to have a man to survive, and at times in my 20s that was the ONLY way I did survive even if I got taken advantage of. And everyone who doesn't suffer like this on a daily basis and finds everything that much easier are so against un aliving oneself which I grown to find more and more upsetting and lacking empathy. Because of your kind comment and suggestion I will try to ask my medical providers about support... right now all I have is some good friends and I wouldn't be surprised if they give up on helping me or communicating with me (others have).
