Slant cutting helps to get a better observation of the browning of the vascular tissue/inner portion of the stem (one of the symptoms), and for a bigger surface area as well for the ooze to come out.

Please check the Bacterial Wilt Technical Guide on growhow.eastwestseed.com/technical-guide-template/bacterial-wilt for the management of the disease. Unfortunately, no effective curative chemical to manage the disease. What works best is to use resistant varieties available in your area.

Unfortunately, there is no effective bactericide for bacterial wilt. But you can apply IPM strategy as preventive

If it's in a container you have to throw away potting soil and sterilize it.
