have you heard of exponential growth? knowledge is pretty much the same, when you now very little you think you know everything, but when you start to learn more and more then you start to see how exponentially vast the universe actually is compared to your previous perspective, and then you realize how puny your knowledge is compared to this vast universe.

As someone who has worked at dealerships, the system creates issues where most things are guessed at and then the tech moves onto the next job. Under warranty, guessing at a part replacement will typically pay better than diagnosis. This type of repair then gets translated to customer pay jobs. This attitude results in poor customer service, but is ultimately what keeps the money rolling in. The customer reaction at the German luxury dealers I have been at is typically the same (under warranty or customer pay), the customer gets frustrated and eventually trades the car in for the next model.... the ‘problem car’ is sent to auction.... and becomes some else’s problem!

This sort thing happens at independents & back street garages too, I regularly have to fix misdiagnosed faults from these establishments. On turbo diesel engines, if the seal in the turbo axis leaks, the oil that cools and lubricates the turbo axis goes into the intake. this can cause an engine runaway condition. On a petrol engine? nah, it would be OIL inside a GAS/PETROL engine... but I guess if not too much it could still cause a rich condition...

Thank you for this case study my friend. I didn’t know that high pressure fuel pump can develop internal leak. Awesome info.👍👍

DiagnoseDan friend I have question for you. Does internal leak in fuel pump affect performance of pump itself? Meaning can pump achieve peak pressure under load conditions? And could you use downstream oxygen sensor to see fuel mixture instead of using gas analyzer? I hope these questions make sense. Thank you sir.
@Diagnosedan
@Diagnosedan 5 жыл бұрын
@@kyhomegarage3430 i kept the old pump and i still need to find if it's leaking internaly from the high or low side. If it's a smal leak on the low side the low pressure fuel pump could have enough capacity to make up for the loss. You could use the O2 sensors instead of the gasanalyser, but i would prefer the upstream.

I worked for a Ferrari dealership for 10 years, 1988-1998, the mechanics there were flat rate, highly trained and dam good at their job. I purchased a 2018 Jeep JLUR and every time I take it to a dealership for a problem I end up knowing more than their mechanics! They wanted to replace the radio and instrument cluster when it was a simple software update problem. I had to bring them the update notice off of a forum to get them to do the update. They are completely unaware of the capabilities or function of this vehicle. They had three different mechanics and their shop supervisor look at my tailgate and tell me I needed a different type of reinforcement bracket. I ended up doing the adjustment myself, problem fixed. My opinion is this is just a job for them, they really don’t care to learn about their product.

James Harvey I have 43 years as a Dealer Master Technician. My boss doesn’t get me at all. The techs that don’t care sell more parts per hour and more hours per Month. The customer is not the priority anymore. We do have some great techs but sadly many that see it as just a job.
