Helping a friends son get his '74 CB450 running earlier today. A new battery got the bike to turn over with the starter but it didn't have a spark at the plugs, but they do spark when touching either of the blue coil wires directly to ground (points wires disconnected) using a jumper. I'm assuming that the insulators on each points set where the screw that secures the wire from the points to the coils has gone bad. I've never run in to this issue before and find it a little strange that it happened to both point sets though one set does have more resistance than the other. Have you ever run into this problem before??

Check the wires at the points. Make sure they have the insulators. Had a no spark issue on a 90. Tracked it down to the insulating washer. What’s odd is it’s in both.

@@motorcyclerewind The bike runs now!! After I got replacement points that looked exactly like the old ones with a redish silicone looking insulator, I tested the old ones on the bench and they had continuity at all times, opened or closed. I see some points on Ebay that have plastic insulators, similar to other points I have in other bikes. I think get a set of those in case these fail later. Thanks for responding!
