Dude acting as this patient must've been super difficult. Props to the guy for pulling it off: you need to be clearly/visibly happy, but you also need to put clear fear/misery into the way you talk. The ending scene with his daughter would be extra tricky, trying to balance smiling and happiness with obvious dread and sadness.

This is a classic example of a man standing in the middle of the road. When a bystander tries to move him away from the cars, the man says “my religion will save me no thanks.” In reality his religion very well could’ve been working through the bystander. God cannot help you if you refuse everything he’s offering

I’m gonna use that one on my uber religious family (they’re the on the extreme side of JW) “God cannot help you if you refuse everything he’s offering”. They use it for everything, especially mental illness.

This reminds me of a story where a guy dies in a flood, thinking God would save him and refusing help whenever a Coast Guard boat came to pick him up. When he drowned and went to heaven, he asked God why He didn't save him. God was like, "bruh, I sent three different rescue boats to come pick you up and you didn't board any of them. Not my fault."

Even as a Christian, I'm with House on this one. The guy says he's doing this bc his daughter was dying, right? "I said I'd nail myself to a cross for every year He kept her alive." I think curing her cancer is less "keeping her alive" and more God being like "How about I just take your daughter's cancer away entirely so that you *don't* have to go through what I did?" In other words, bro got it so wrong...

If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn't think of such a thing. You're at least decent to your own children. "Why are u smiling?" "I am not smiling" Alright yeah thats the point House became a Horror Show. Seriously a smile with the right line can be more terrifying than a Mouth with 1000 Daggers as teeth. This dude had my hair stand up straight
@jessiehogue.
@jessiehogue. 5 ай бұрын
There's a good reason the horror movie 'Smile' is so freaking terrifying. A smile is supposed to be pure, conveying joy, happiness and cheerfulness. When it is only surface level and covering the exact opposite or other negative emotions, it becomes some sort of unnatural, unsettling, twisted parody of that expectation. Same goes for children being cute, funny and pure. Kids in horror movies are MUCH scarier than adults for that same reason. Horror goes 10x worse when it's from something that's supposed to be the exact opposite.

House has to be the best of medical dramas ever as Hugh Laurie is a phenomenal actor and his supporting cast meshed beautifully the entire series. I still cannot make up my mind if I hated or loved Dr. House and the ending was awesome as I had mixed feelings of his getting away with faking his death and I still can't make up my mind to this day!!!! Seeing Laurie's career from working with Stephen Fry in Bertie & Wooster and Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder in comedic roles he still managed to play the anti-hero in House. I don't plan to binge watch the series again but I am so grateful for these clips as they jog my memory of some of the best episodes. I don't know if he'll get another successful series but his playing the villains in a couple movies he's been in shows he'll dominate the acting niche for the rest of his career.

It reminds me of a family friend. Her labour was very complicated. Afterwards, there was a chance of her baby dying. The mother was praying to her god, promising to reject alcohol and sweets. Her son is now married and she herself hasn't drunk or eaten sugar since 34 years. I absolutely don't believe in God's intervention. It's very depressive that such being would just wait in the clouds to make a deal but I never thought about the mother badly and I'm actually impressed with her conviction.

The studies regarding the efficacy of prayer to aid recovery actually showed the opposite. Prayer did only have a significant effect on those who knew they were being prayed for, yes, but that effect was fairly uniformly negative. The research seems to suggest that people tend to stress out over whether the prayer is helping, ultimately leading to worsening prognosis.

I would argue that faith is, in itself, a sign of mental illness. But even if we don't go down that road, it's pretty clear that anyone "making a deal with god" is delusional. There's absolutely no rational basis on which to base something like that. BY DEFINITION it is irrational, illogical, and delusional.

They got the prayer recover thing backwards. Prayer actually works at the rate of chance, UNLESS the patient knows they are being prayed for, in which case the recovery rate is less than that. In other words, it doesn't work, but it's actually detrimental when when the patient knows they are being prayed for.

This is why you should make your children (or yourself) think that God is a genie that grants wishes or a all powerful being that only allows good things to happen. What she does not realize is that God made this world but He does not control it. Also, human sin broke not only humanity, but this world, too. A boat with Samaritans are in the boat getting to safety near by and tell him to get in the boat. The priest refuses and says “God will save me” then the same thing with rescuers come buy and he denies them and says “God will save me” then another boat with no one in it comes buy. He refused to get in and sat on his roof hoping God will save him. He dies and when he gets to meet God face to face he asks “why didn’t you save me?” God responded with “I tried to save you but you refused! I sent the samaritans, the rescuers, and the empty boat. But you refused to be saved.” God works through others whether or not they know it.
