Mr. Salera, thank you most kindly for your post of this video. I don't have much in the way of financial resources and I picked one of these up not working cheap. I had hoped to be able to go through some sort of re-initialization process or reset to factory presets but, with my limited computer experience, when I turned it on for the first time and got the solid red "hd" light and other red lights I could also hear what I imagine is a ruined hard drive. I appreciate your instructional video and you as a person. I would imagine a good person goes through your experience and thinks about posting a video to help other people out but doesn't find the time to do it whereas a great person not only has the thought, but also does the helpful thing. Thank you for your help.

Hey dude, I follow your explanation fixing my Boss recorder. Your video encourage me not to waist my gadget. It was hard to find something compatible (hard drive and the IDE connector) or someone able to think on fixing something as old as this recorder. But it works. Your are a genius by helping people like me, thanks, salud!

Thanks for the info. Just fixed my BR-1200. I do want to note any new HD has to be formatted as exFAT or FAT32. NTFS will not work (or - at least - did not work for me). My unit had a dead Hitachi HD & I replaced it with a Maxtor 80GB- $30 w/shipping.

Great video. I thought my old BR-1180CD would never break. Well it did today. I was erasing a few songs and tried optimizing what was left and on one tune it got stuck. Unplugged the unit and then it came up with "now checking" message and just stayed there. Tried the hold down [5] and Undo while turning the unit on and got to the test menu but couldn't do anything. Too bad Boss got rid of the 1180 and 1600 line. Great machines IMHO. I guess I'll be getting a desktop HD. Thanks for the tips.

Man, thank you so much for this. My question is; and this may be a dumb question but my issue was the same as yours- i would have to unplug the unit to power it off. Is it possible to retrieve the data off the frozen hard drive? Or is my work lost forever? Thanks man

HI there,I have a BR 1600 Cd which is giving me fits. It works when I boot it up. If it sits for 5 minutes with out doing anything it freezes up and there is a terrible hissing coming form the headset. I imagine it would be coming through the speakers if they were hooked up. I have to unplug the unit to get it to start up again. I can record and play but left alone for a minutes or two and it crashes. I initialized it but still does the same. My question is....do you think its the hard drive or the onboard electronics?Thanks very much,-Phil

@believin13 the "clipping" one is a little difficult the short answer is no, if that doesnt help you and you DO want the long answer , just ask me again and i'll be more than happy to explain it(it will take up some space though , so ill prob inbox it to you, so let me know)

@believin13 #2cnd, yes any effect added will increase the overall volume(unless its compression or limiting) if you ad the effect "after" meaning you already recorded and now want to add delay or e.q. or what not ,i have found it not only distorts the sound a little more , but is louder to...

I hope you can help me with my br 1200. I accidentally plugged it into my laptop power supply instead of the power supply . It started booting up like normal but before it finished it began flashing all the lights I assume to signal a system error and now goes into an all lights flashing mode immediately when I try to power it up. It seems like I should be able to do a factory reset to correct the problem but i cannot figure out how and can find no information on the problem.

@FREAKonetwoonetwo13 жыл бұрын
@beatlesfan27 you can remove the old hard drive and transfer the files to the new one and then instal it, the only thing im not sure of is when the br-1180 asks you to "initialize" at startup ,if you select "yes" im not sure that it erases the info on it , so you might want to select "no" when it asks to "initialize",,

When you partition the hard drive did you use NTFS format? Also did you need to initialize each partition on the BR?
@tommccarthy30527 жыл бұрын
Questor Jones I was going to comment on this. I had to replace the HD on my BR-1200 & it was formatted NTSF. It will not work formatted that way. Since the unit is meant to work with either Windows or Apple (via the USB) you have to use the exFAT format. Once I did that the unit recognized the drive & let me initialize it.
@cjueschke10 жыл бұрын
Anthony, how were you able to tranfer songs to your laptop? The br 1180 doesnt have a usb port right?
@MAC786 жыл бұрын
No USB! You have to burn CD.. if you don’t have the CD burner, you can use the spdif output

Holy S%#@ you are the man! Ha ha...I want to do this to my Br 1600 cd for more space. My question issue, what is the size, drive speed, and format of the old HD? Is this info printed on the old HD?
@jamesthreadgill76516 жыл бұрын
Just a couple of items I didn't see. I replaced mine on a br-1600 with a cd r/w. The jumpers may vary. The Caviar Blue's jumpers worked using 5&6 or, the ones in the middle. Also, no matter what jumpers you use you will still get a hd error. You have to get the right jumper settings and then initialize the hd. Roland says they don't reccomend WD or anything over 80mb. I used the WD anyway so we'll see. It's up and running now.

hi, I am trying this with a zoom mrs-1044 seems to be the same insides as the boss br series. but not sure about jumpers any info? thanks...

@busywave its worth a shot ,just make sure to look at your connections on both hard drives before you disconnect them, if they are the same then as long as the hard drive going in is fine ,should be good,, comment back and let me know what happens ..

Thanks! My drive was stuck in the checking mode... Didn't have a device to format in fat 32 so just nicked one out of an old desktop that was dead - but hoping it wasn't dead cos of hard drive - wacked it in with a bit of foam packing cut in half top and bottom of drive, turned the 1180 on and bing0 66hrs of recording time, although once initialised it says 33 hrs. Seems to work so I'll put the rest of the screws in, sadly lost all my songs as I do not have the CDROM model, but had recorded them for playing with on Laptop, so have the files, but of course I hadn't saved them track by track (it would have taken forever) but seems to work. I record in the kitchen and think the old drive failed because my new washing machine vibrates the whole room when it gets going, will put the 1180 on a tea towel or summit to insulate it from bad vibes, the drive had been struggling to load songs and kept crashing for the last week or so.

My Boss 1180 ... I can't put music on CD ... it seems to write, but SLOWLY, then I finalize, but it takes a long time and the disc cannot be played. Worked for 8 years, but no more. I bought a Zoon R24 today BUT wondering if anyone knows about my Boss 1180 (suggestions?)
