So glad I found this channel. The absolute best technical analysis of the series. Criminally lacking views.

Exactly!! Makes me wonder if this person was somehow involved with the making of the series, it’s so in depth that it feels like I’m hearing this straight from the developer’s mouth.

Each recording COULD be of a separate player, not just Care. The ones that are a little dopier could be Paul doing his demo/pretend the door is open thing, or they could be those dozens of younger kids that we see recordings of in even care with various levels of intelligence.

I would rather hear a “I don’t know” than some bullshit filler for a theory video. Videos like this one are worth watching.

Wait, MatPat was wrong about something? Seriously though, I was pretty sure the dials meant something like this and it's cool to see it mapped out. The one assumption I find shaky is that Rainer is a competent or focused enough programmer to optimize memory. This is a guy who archives all of his previous "builds" within the same build, never deleting anything. I don't have any alternative theories for why some recordings don't play but...Rainer is really weird, y'know?

Well it looks to me like it's not for saving on memory or anything, the game is in a playback mode, you've got players being controlled by saved inputs rather than controller inputs. When playing back this sort of thing you'd want to disable things like level load triggers as they'd go off whenever a playback player goes into them. I think this is why they run into the door but can't enter, for them they did enter and go through, but in playback it just shows them running into the door. It also seems to me like the system saves player position and rotation data rather than inputs only, like when the person watching recording looses control of the recording player they run back towards the door rather than the same direction. It looks like not just inputs are being saved , the position is actually saved, and a script controls the players by giving inputs to get them to those positions

MatPat usually spits out popular theories other people in a community had already theorized. And you can ALMOST ALWAYS GAURANTEE that they're always the most outlandish ones with evidence from the source that actually deconfirms the theory to be true. Just take his hollow knight theory for starters.

The dial in the "Ghost Room" of Petscop 16 is also on 6:15... so I suppose it's also showing Care's movements?

Well personally i thought thatvtgey all represented care in the 10th generation in different places and this explains why they run into the wall and stuff and he had to pick the one when care was in the house

Great vid again man, all that went through my head was the casket description (care spinning in circles from 45 degrees to 90,180,360 etc), but it has to be related to either time, player id, angles or months of the year just need more info

You are definitely doing a great work and you've become my favorite Petscop investigator 🕵️♂️ Ever considered to add transcripts? As a non-native English speaker, I personally struggled to understand the dial analysis even replaying the part between 3:30 and 12:42 a few times.

the time of the recording can't be exact dates, as the ps1 doesn't have an internal clock, however, the ps1 can still count, so it might indicate some time difference, instead of an absolute point in time

Side note: I can't be convinced it's someone actually taking control when a triangle head is turned into a Naul head. The character's behavior does radically change, but why would the player just drop it for another one? Why run in a table then back into a wall? ... But if we keep the classic explanation of triangle head indicated Paul recordings, and the selection (Naul head) being, somehow, Care's recordings, coupled with your theory of the dial tracking time of recording, then... what we can have is all Paul recordings running around stupidly, then upon selection being turned into Care's recording at the wrong time (aka when she didn't feel like leaving the room / wasn't even in the room at all). For example char' 45 could have been Paul leaving the game for a while, as he usually does, and upon selection it became Care's... leaving the House because... I don't know, Petscop. Point is, I would still favor automatic movement rather than manual control.

Look at all the detail being abstracted. Such a waste for the series to end so abruptly. We'll never even know if half of them have any merit cause Tony barely addresses lore questions on his twitter
