For me, this isn't calm. It is unsettling, yes, but if anything, it's more depressing. It feels like the representation of spamton failing to achieve the freedom he so desperately desired, designed for the sole purpose of being pushed around.

@@CherryRibbon I think it's calm in a sort of "it's finally over" way. Spamton literally crashed and burned in his journey to break free but his obsession with freedom was a prison in and of itself. It was literally all he ever worked towards or thought about. Even if he got his freedom, he would almost definitely be constantly paranoid that it could be ripped away from him at any moment and he would be back in the dumpster. He couldn't enjoy it even if he got it. At least now he can move on, even if doing so is pretty depressing. He develops a new sense of purpose after he's defeated though (i.e. "let me become your strength") so I've always interpreted "Dialtone" as depressing and a bit eerie but also tinged with a tiny bit of hope for what's to come next.

I still get chills that Gaster is slowly making himself known to the world of Undertale and alot more in Deltarune (not just being a slight creepy easter egg found in the files all those years ago) and was able to communicate and corrupt Spamton and Jevil. Spamton is an amazing character. He deserved so much better. He was just a salesman struggling, and when the only person helping him left, he fell apart. He knew that he needed Mike, but he plays it off like he needs nobody, and that he just needs to get bigger, and not be anyones puppet anymore. He pushed everyone away. And inevitably, never got the reasurance and support he needed. I feel like the fandom sometimes whittles him down to just "funni salesman lol", but he is so so so much more than that.

I love how much i hate the way I felt with this cover. It took me a sec to recognize that it's the same piano synth as Fallen Down with a little extra noise. Listening to this took me down a little mental rabbit hole, This is the socialital insanity, manifested in the form of hyperlink funny guy. This song ignores the persona to completely reveal that core. The inherit insanity nobody realizes they have. The desire to keep being greater and greater at the cost of everything. Rising sales and depression rates, a false cycle of success leading to success, ultimately ends up being a downfall in of itself. Nothing we ever do is good enough to others because the bar is constantly moving. Like a form of voluntary slavery, but the person is illusioned to thinking its somthing else entirely. We don’t need money to live, but we made it that way, for what? More money to play abstract games called transactions with? People often make great sacrifices just to gamble with it, and we look down on those people, but many of us don’t realize we're doing the same thing, just by being passive instead. Any of that work you did can come shattering down in an instant due to bad decisions from higher ups, or you if you're one of them. Then, you have nothing to fall back on, as even natural resources required to live have a price tag, and we often pay more for groceries that aren't stuffed with chemicals and taste worse. All this is to say, in isolation, any of these would be considered, well crazy, dystopian, horrible, yet we act like we're perfectly logical and rational in making those decisions. Everyone is insane as far as logic and reasonability is concerned, but no one is insane because it's so normal. I find this an interesting contrast to Jevil, a character who fits a social convention of insanity. He treats his hinderences as a way to be more free, and while spamton is treated to tracks such as this, jevil is upbeat. He relishes his own somewhat strnage and illogical veiw and becomes happier because of it, where spamton is stuck in an illusion, constantly chasing after something unobtainable, even when it looks barely in reach, becoming sadder because of it.

@@famifawx98 nono. I mean, if you speed this song up, its a note by note riff of "the world revolving"... I know Toby haves a F*** tone of leifmotifs but this song is a direct rip-off, made by Toby himself. XD Hell! Gaster's main theme if played side by side fits perfectly with both TWR & Big Shot. I know that's not much to take from, but knowing Toby, he's most likely make the next 4-5 "Weird Secret Characters" theme song also fit Gaster's. =P.

@@leif19samcynos There's a lot more to The World Revolving than this part. So this is indeed the leitmotif itself, slowed down & isolated basically. It's used in World Revolving, as well as BIG SHOT, connecting both characters. You might want to look up the meaning of "leitmotif" & hear examples, in case you still doubt that that's what's at play here.

The reason why I don't call this a leitmotif is because dial tone itself is that whole portion of TRW. as said. if the song had more to it, then the argument here is null&Void. That said, i honestly never expected so many of you would have THIS strong of a reaction. =) it's almost narcissistic of me to keep this going. XD... My take is that Dial tone is not a leifmotif, it's literally just a portion of another song, riff straight from it, used different sounds & slowed to a crawl. Unto itself "Thats-the-Piont" I know Tony wanted to make a point to tell us that Spammy and Jevil are linked, specifically them. there's a message in there. I'm honestly willing to bet that the nest secret weird character in chapter 3 going to have a song that's a straight riff of Big Shot. "Riff": A short repeated phrase in popular music, typically used as an introduction or refrain in a song.
