I totally agree with you on your point. This is why I limit the time they spend on these electronic games. It's best to buy real books for them to read. My son recently took up chess and he loves it. I think kids need a good balance between technology and using your imagination.

I still have one of the early leap pads that kids use with the book and cartridge. Kids can still feel, turn the pages, practice hand grip with holding and using the pen and hear the audio. The downside with the new iPads and Leap pads is that they take away a lot of children's important sensory and hands on developmental skills. So a parent must still control or limit the child's time spent on those devices and make sure apps are educational and not so game addictive based.

Well I agree but now in pound land you can get this not pen but works like one so I got given a fire tablet for my son and I try to get him to use it to practice writing the alphabet (only saying as there are some solutions if you research.) Although the least electronics the better

@aquinyc Setting up the account is not difficult. First setup your kid's name on the LeapPad so he/she has a profile setup on the unit. Then install the software CD that came with the unit. It will ask you for an email so it will email you updates. Plug the unit into the USB, and the unit will talk to the software and the software will show you it found the profile setup in the unit.

I got a leappad second hand and it didn't have the USB cable with it. I tried a generic cable and it fitted in the connection on the device but my computer said it didn't recognise the leappad. I had already downloaded the connection software from the disc. So dose it only work with the USB that comes with the product. Thank you
