They should make this a video call platform for all the Stargate fans. And the dhd device is to call other Stargate. The spooling up feature can be the ringtone then once wormhole connects (via wifi video call) a micro camera imbedded in Stargate will portrait u to the other Stargate. I think would be a cool feature even if hardly used.

Yooo this is so cool! Thank you so much for making this!

The chevrons on the target gate would light up all at once as the kawoosh happened. Only the earth gate does that sequential thing, because it lacks a DHD
@Monody5122 жыл бұрын
There are scenes of other gates receiving an incoming dial chevron-by-chevron, though it's admittedly a bit of a plot hole. (When you dial one glyph, does every gate in the galaxy whose address starts with that glyph light up one chevron? :P) It seems weird that the Ancients would've designed the gates to receive an incoming dial instantly, since that gives anyone in front of the gate no time to get out of the way. The most likely way for it to work is all of the incoming chevrons would light sequentially in the time it takes the dialing gate to encode the point of origin and engage.
@RAdaltonracer2 жыл бұрын
@@Monody512 If anything I’d say that there’s enough of a delay between gates that it’s not exactly instantly, and actually gives enough time for the whole address to be dialed before the first chevron on the incoming gate lights up. The time during the unstable vortex is probably all it takes for the incoming gate to dial.

@Pengalen2 жыл бұрын
One thing they never explain. The recipient ring is obviously receiving some signal from the outgoing ring prior to the establishment of the wormhole as the chevrons light up, which means it must be using some kind of subspace (or other technobabble explanation) communication apart from the wormhole. However, this brings up another thing that is never mentioned. If the chevrons on the receiving end light up as the outgoing chevrons are keyed, but before the full sequence is keyed, that means that on the first chevron, a whole bunch of chevrons on different Stargates must light up with the first one, and then fewer and fewer as additional chevrons are lit up, until the sixth is lit up, because six define the destination. I honestly don't know why you need to activate the seventh symbol to tell where you are, nor how that would be represented by a seventh chevron on the receiving end, since distant locations must be represented by six chevrons. Seriously, if a single symbol can represent "here", why isn't there just one symbol for every location?
@francisconti90852 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the quantum realm & "inverse causality" as part of the wormhole process? But your point seems quite reasonable! *Perhaps "priority-locks" channel in narrowing sequence, narrowing # of stargates "reacting" ..but possibly all stargates are "block chain" tied into the process? Perhaps all stargates contribute energy & temporal/spatial reference grid?
@RandidlySquared Жыл бұрын
You aren't thinking 4th dimensionally. These wormholes allow you to travel through space at faster than light speed. Time and space are the same thing according to quantum theory (a.k.a. Spacetime). As far as the gates are concerned, they don't exist in a set time or place; especially, since the universe is expanding, the galaxy is rotating, and the planets are constantly drifting, rotating, spinning, and wobbling. The first 6 chevrons tell the entire system that someone, somewhere is dialing a specific gate (since the DHD can be moved and connected to different gates). The 7th chevron tells the system which gate to activate as the point of origin. Theoretically, you could remotely activate any gate as the point of origin (to the surprise of whoever happens to be around that gate at the time); however, they do explain that the 7th needs to coincide with whichever gate the DHD is connected to otherwise the dialing sequence cancels (a safety feature I'd imagine).
@originsdecoded3508 Жыл бұрын
Perhaps the gates are in constant communication with each other via quantum coupling entanglement. Like Einstein explained the phenomena of "Spooky Particles From a Far Distance" is when you take 2 particles that are quantumly entangled with each other, when you change the spin of the electron of 1 particle, the 2nd corresponding particle also mirrors the change in spin of the first particle at the same time, no matter the distance from each other. This can be used as a form of communication across far distance at faster then speed of light. Perhaps all the gates have this form of communication, they are all quantumly entangled and when you dial in a destination those particular particles within that dial are spinned, and depending the corresponding gate of destination, it receives the message to activate once the quantumly entangled particle have a spin in the electron direction, thus connecting with the origin gate that ininiated the sequence.

So every stargate has a ring that doesn't move except earth? This show is awesome but fuuuuck the plot holes big enough to swallow a mothership
@jonny-b49542 жыл бұрын
@@johndickson377 Well, pretty sure that's because the Tauri had to rig the software of the gate and what not to make it word. They didn't find the DHD. So had to build their own and thus, I think that's why it does that. Explained in the show actually.
@TricksterRad2 жыл бұрын
@@johndickson377 technically every Stargate's ring could spin - in fact, the SG-1 team used the ring to dial out on planets where the DHD wasn't available/got destroyed multiple times - it just wasn't necessary when dialing via the DHD. The earth computer wasn't "advanced enough" to communicate with the gate like the DHD did, but they managed to get the ring to spin by modulating the gate's power supply at varying frequencies.
@omniscience92932 жыл бұрын
I think it's that the DHD dials the gate directly, but it can be dialed manually by spinning the ring by hand (like in The Torment of Tantalus and others). I think the gate on Earth is dialed in a similar manner? Somehow? Or, maybe it really is supposed to spin that way all the time and they just cut it out of the show to save time...
@TricksterRad2 жыл бұрын
@@johndickson377 think of it like having two input methods for an old-school phone - the dial and an external keypad. The keypad is more advanced and quicker to dial with, but you can always fall back to dialing with the dial.

I found an error in the lore. If you need a combination of seven symbols to dial the correct address, how does the gate at your destination light up before you even finish dialing in the address? Is there a delay that is neglected in the show to save time or is it a legitimate error on the writers' part? Of course I'm also neglecting speed of light delay before dialing in and opening of the gate on the other side.
@TonkarzOfSolSystem2 жыл бұрын
Because the gates enable faster than light travel, technically the gate on the other side will in fact open in the past long after the entire sequence was dialed. This explanation is probably cheating because relativity and its implications on FTL travel are routinely ignored in sci-fi, but we do know that gates can actually allow time travel. In any case I don't think we've ever seen two gates connect that were close enough such that we could verify when exactly the receiving gate chevron is locked in. So, for all we know, the receiving gate chevrons don't begin lighting up until the outgoing gate wormhole is already open, and the seeming discrepancy is explained by travel time. However this explanation could be called into question by radio waves as the outgoing gate can receive messages by electromagnetic wave pretty much as soon as it opens. One final note is that the incoming gates open in different ways in different episodes, sometimes it's nearly instant, other times each chevron can be seen lighting up one at a time.
@Rolypoly982 жыл бұрын
This ocurred to me for the first time while watching this video too.
@0megacron2 жыл бұрын
The entire network of gates in each galaxy is always connected to each other via subspace. The dialing connection is nearly instantaneous because of that. The delay is in actually connecting & creating the wormhole. It's kind of like the old switchboard phone system, where an operator would connect you with the person you were calling... except in this case every gate in your galaxy is an operator.
@stevejordan72752 жыл бұрын
Well, having only ever seen the movie, I'd speculate that all the gates light up when the first symbol is activated. As you progress, the gates don't get a "more coming" signal and turn off. As a side effect, everyone and his cousin Fred would know when someone's using the gates. I doubt they used this in the series, though; any serious group would notice the thing randomly lighting up one or two or three symbols and then shutting down. OTOH, if you key in the whole sequence before hitting the GO button, maybe it sends the whole string, and then non-destination gates don't bother to light up. My personal preference is a Uraniborg Anachron Device. Infinitely variable destinations, time travel possible (though extremely dangerous for anyone you don't take with you: as far as they know, you're just lost in the multiverse if you forget to record the location *and then go back to it.*

In my mind, I think the whole sequence is only local, and the moment the last symbol (origin) is going to get loaded, the other stargate receives the dialing and then opens up... Like the last symbol would be the real "code" to get decoded, that works as a safety of not being activated by random events... once the last symbol is activated (not locked) the stargate "calls" the other one and the confirmed symbol in place is on sync with both sides opening... otherwise the gate does that last "discharged" unable to lock destiny sound.

This is amazing as a stargate nerd, and a great example of what it would look like to be dialed from earth. Since the SGC stargate is the only one outside regular manual dial that slowly spins for each chevron lock. every other stargate with a proper DHD just lights up as they are pressed from each respective end. Marking the hazard of the unstable vortex as you never know when some goauld mothership might speed-dial your planet while chilling near the stargate and vaporize you before you can even stand up. But the SGC dialing is so ominous with the delayed lights. It must be frightening to see for the first time to an unsuspecting planet.
