I've always said that about SG. The show, as a whole, was the best balance between humor and seriousness while still maintaining one of the most engaging worlds and overarching stories ever.
@MsHojat5 жыл бұрын
Firefly was very good too; it just didn't happen to last. And I suppose debatably wasn't as good at all that as SG, but I'd say that's quite disputable (due to the major difference in total content)
@SeraphX25 жыл бұрын
Mshojat not gonna knock it overall. its a good show. however, not sure it would have held up for me as a world. it was very shallow with just your typical galactic empire vs underdog rebels (both the defeated browncoats and Mal’s ragtag group). it was literally a western in space not so much sci-fi other than the fact they happen to be in space ships.
@tonyallen31385 жыл бұрын
Mshojat Firefly was amazing, it just didn’t make the cut. They could’ve ran those characters and show on numerous directions for years. Especially after the movie Serenity, I wanted the writers to dive deeper into that world that existed.
@TwoStageTrigger5 жыл бұрын
Firefly was a live action cowboy bebop. It was good, but stargate had way more as far as story. It was just set up so well (mainly sg1, Atlantis lost some scientific continuity but was still pretty good and Universe died pretty quick).

The thing that got me hooked on stargate is how they tied it into egyption mythology and history. When they got into norse mythology, that was the best part.
@fanta48975 жыл бұрын
That's actually one of the few things which I find unperfected in Stargate universe. It wasn't a problem in the movie that it was tied into egyptian mythology, however once they started adding new gods it became messy. They brought in not only egyptian gods, but also greek, slavic, etc. gods without adjusting anything around them (no matter if they were representing egyptian gods, or greek gods, or any other gods, they still had the same egyptian-like architecture in their ships, egyptian-like language, all of them had the same jaffas, with only design variations seen with serpent guards and horus guard, which is still staying within the egyptian desgin, they also use sarcophagus which is meant for healing/afterlife, even though in other mythologies burial process very often didn't include sarcophagus, even though it did often include reincarnation, etc. ). And it became even more messy once they added asgards (if goaulds took inspirations from the other mythologies, then why was the nordic one left out? wouldn't it make sense, if there were also nordic goaulds? if they took on identity of all the other, including slavic, which has some gods similar to nordic mythology?), and ancients (who seemed to have direct impact on language with latin, even though they were on the Earth much sooner than goaulds, they also seemed to have direct impact on some paganic beliefs with their impact on Arthurian legend, and also some christian iconography).
@romaina.62415 жыл бұрын
@@fanta4897 The goaulds didn't take inspiration on mythology. The mythology took inspiration on the goaulds.
@fanta48975 жыл бұрын
@@romaina.6241 True. But that still wouldn't explain the vast differences in designs and mythology on Earth (if goaulds resembled most the egyptian gods/mythology, then everywhere where there was goauld, there would be something similar to egyptian language, concept of afterlife, concept of burial into sarcophagus, and pyramids, only the concept of afterlife/reincarnation was present in most of those along with pyramids if you also count zikkurats as pyramids).

I’ve watched ALL Stargate and Star Trek different series over and over again. I can’t get enough! You pick up more every time and these shows don’t have swearing and the whole tone of these shows teach us so much about courage in the face of adversity and also not judging your fellow man for any reason, we are all the same race afterall!! They show us that we can better ourselves and everyone around us, one step at a time and then the human race will not only survive but thrive with a positive and ethical stance. They teach us how to be more human and that there is always hope and we CAN make a difference!! Thank you so very much to all concerned and all the people that love and are touched by the messages of these shows so that we all can make our lives better and better everyday in every way!!

Most Sci-Fi TVs shows are predominantly filmed on sets but as Stargate SG-1 gained popularity the budget allowed for the already generous location shoots in each series to increase. For me this gives the show a much more 'movie quality' feel and helps the actors get in character much better. Ultimately it keeps the show interesting, there are only so many fake rocks and trees of set location based Sci-Fi shows you can put up with.

Stargate SG-1 was always the O'neil and Teal'c show. Thats why when O'neil left, Stargate didn't miss a beat because Teal'c was always the other true star of it. Many of the cast shifted but never Teal'c, he was the heart and soul of SG-1 and another show could be made, just off of him alone or with a new team, or maybe one or two from the old group.

For me it was always from the movie, a bit of Daniel Jackson, and Jonathan 'Jack' O'Neil. the relationship of the two is what really made that movie work. And thanks to James Spader, And Kurt Russle, for giving that. That said, and into the TV show. it still holds. but they allowed for more 'human' interactions. To me The back and forth with the characters in SG1 make it work. the adventures are just an extention of that. all of the stories really come down to the reactions of our characters. That for me was the hook. And after a decade or so. they didn't disapoint.

Sci-fi should also be challenging and hold a mirror up to our current day society as it has done since the early days of sci-fi in books etc. So naturally with the world kinda bleak these days, modern sci-fi takes that bent.
