I’m new to audio engineering and this was what I needed right now. Thank you!

Coming from a background of mixing and mastering, I used to compress first and limit after. Awesome hint to limit first, so the compressor receives an already "more leveled" signal. Thank you!

Even if you use other plugins, this video still does a great job showing the underlying theory. Thanks for this!

Fantastic I was just looking at my FX chain. this helped so much. Thanks for breaking that down. I'm good on one side of the mic, this other side can be a bit confusing. I appreciate the time you take to do these

Also, you made mention of the loudness graph you use, and you are also using the spectrum function. if you had time in the near future explaining the function of these and how they would help dialogue would be great. thanks again

Right on man, this is pretty much my workflow with dialog. Not too heavy handed or it starts sounding false and processed. Enhance the natural recording and people love it. Haha. cheers

I mix and edit a podcast where there is 4 hosts, I use AutoMixer to not have to worry too much about silencing when they are talking simultaneously, even though I need to edit most of the time, and then TriLeveler2 on the voices' bus to keep the same overall desired level. Good tips tho, the la2a compressor is a good start point to compress the vocals

Hi! Wouldn't it be better in some situations, to automate the threshold on the Limiter, so it adjusts to all the track, instead of using 2 instances of Reacomp? I usually do a pre-fader gain automation in the fly, as a pre-compression work when the track is a mess. But if it's a long track, I'll go for plugins instead of manual corrections. What I do is to use the modulation wheel on mi midi controller, hit midilearn functions, assign the wheel to the automation lane ''volume (pre-fader)'', slow enough the time rate to be more accurate, Wriite automation rides, then comeback to normal rate and that's it. Sometimes I do it visually, with the mouse, check the new peaks are where I want, and job done. Thank you so much for this tutorial, I didn't knew how to use ReaFir well, as I'm starting to work on radio spots from time to time (a friend sends me some works she can't do because her job is more about video editing and me it's only audio).

The sibilant stuff is increased after limiting and compression as well as sounding louder.
@TheREAPERBlog4 жыл бұрын
yes, which would be the case even if we didn't turn it down first, only much worse. Sometimes I'll use an additional De-Esser, or a dynamic eq.

Thanks from me as well - very good information! How did you get the different colors on your waveform and what do those colors represent? Also, I would love a dialog video on using Isotope plugins, I just bought them and have no idea of all the things they can do. Thanks again.

Hi Jon, these tutorials are beyond helpful. Thank you so much for posting. How did you color code your waveforms based on their amplitude? I've seen color coding tutorials based on frequency, but not volume levels. Thanks.

Thx for the vid. Are you familiar with ACX audio book requirements? If so, What would you suggest if trying to meet ACX requirements, for an audio book yet you still want the best sound? How much does this affect compression?
@TheREAPERBlog3 жыл бұрын
This should get you very close to the ACX guidelines.

When you render the stock plugins do you notice some weird phase issues? Like the negative parts being louder than the positie ones? I'm pretty sure this affects the levels of compression and all. RX7 has a phase plugin that can do adaptive changes so those are more consistent in level, but I was wondering why this happens.

Hi Jon, I am doing a hybrid mix and I want to render to mp3 I know I have to render in real time but how do I go About this? Short of creating a submix 2 bus and recording the output I can't see another away around it. I can obviously only create a wav file like this so is there a way of rendering to mp3 in real time?
