Needed a refresher before I dialogue edited for 310. Just realized you teach at my school. Thank you!

Thanks for this. I always need little refreshers like this in pro tools.

Solid video for beginners! However your fill at beginning and end of clips is considerably long. It would add a lot of time to an edit to ensure each clip has such long top & tails. Also I suggest using equal power fades that overlap equally for your dialogue in/outs!

Do you ever worry about fill buildup, like when you have two tracks playing fill (room tone) simultaneously?

I think room tone is dangerous in general and try to avoid it since it won't match each take. I completely agree with the idea that stacking fill or room tone will certainly cause more noise which is unwanted. I find that being careful with fades, using fill and avoiding room tone works well, especially trying to avoid adding a long track of room tone under a scene for example.

It seems that my audio does NOT have the little tabs on the bottom left which seems so easy to use. Any suggestions?

I’d have to double check this but it is possible you need to have the “smart tool” engaged. I got over this tool in my Pro Tools Bootcamp video if you are unfamiliar. Lmk if that works! (Also I’m thinking you mean the small boxes for creating fades right?)

Following up, do you mean the Clip Gain fader on the bottom left? If so, you can turn this back on by going to View > Clip > Clip Gain Info

You saying "hey dudes" almost made me click off of this video. I'd change your intro to be more inclusive to non-male audio editors.
