PRE HD BUN - POST HD BUN = AMOUNT OF UREA REMOVED
AMOUNT OF UREA REMOVED/PRE HD BUN = UREA REDUCTION
UREA REDUCTION * 100 = UREA REDUCTION RATION
50 (pre HD BUN) - 15 (post HD BUN) = 35 (amount of urea removed)
35 (amount of urea removed) / 50 (pre HD Bun) = .7 (urea reduction)
.7 (urea reduction) * 100 = 70% (Urea Reduction Ratio)
URR goal is greater than or equal to 65%

Congrats on the change! And thanks! Acutes….it can still be chaotic, just a little different thank chronics…I would advise to be flexible, plans can change quickly, communicate with ur other chronic nurses…and trust ur assessments.

Acutes are fun, becuz the emergent hd sessions are so emergent, and ur the one that can manage the machine…nobody in that icu can. It’s a great feeling

Pro’s: decreased morbidity and mortality (will have less hospital stays and live longer). Cons…if you asked the patient, it could mean longer dialysis treatments

Nurse Lindsey, isn’t the URR also directly tied to Medicare & Medicade payment allocations to the dialysis clinics? If a high percentage of patients have an inadequate URR average, payments can be withheld temporarily or permanently in recurring instances? Thanks so much for the information on understanding dialysis labs.

@@dialysisnurselindsey I am sure that pressure from clinic ownership flows down to the clinic managers, nutritionists, and nurse managers each moth. They do not want this to be discussed openly with the patients or family, I guess they fear that it affect the lab results, which would then negatively impact reimbursement.
