Lindsey: I have a question about the RN who is a new worker in dialysis. Once the RN is trained to be a tech, what is the process about getting into the RN role & handling the care of up to 12 (or more) patients undergoing dialysis? I appreciate reading your response & thank you!

Hi. My question might sound absurd but is there any way to make the hands feel lighter during the cannulation? Patients said something that my hand is quite heavy. Also, I feel like I always have trouble with the angle of my cannulation. I do it on 20-30 degrees and patients kinda complained that it is painful. I always feel bad for them and there are times that Im a bit afraid to do it because of their reactions.

You are an angel 😇 I wish I could spend the day with you in clinic and learn all you have to teach. As a new tech your information has been so valuable and very helpful. Also, as someone who likes to bring out the best in every situation, it is OK to take a step back and realize that you are doing everything right and sometimes there are other people that are bringing the team down. My preceptor was like this and I had to confront her about her negative attitude and how it is impacting someone like me who's new and wants to contribute more than team work to the clinic. Don't chase away good people. She was very stressed and ended up putting in her 2 weeks after she finished training me. ❤❤❤ I will pray that you have a wonderful start at your new job.

When I make mistakes I would (speaking this as past tense to not continue the practice) blame myself, analyze what I could have done, beat myself up for not being perfect, and compare myself to others. What I plan to do is stop ask for forgiveness from myself, face the situation and try my best to forgive and learn so that I can move on.

Thank you for this video I have the most impatient preceptor that loves to talk down to me and sometimes patients when we have questions that we are having trouble understanding. In my computer training they only taught us to subtract target weight from the weight they came into the clinic with. Nothing about accounting for treatment tolerance and BP. When we are moving fast my preceptor asks me to type in the goal and I have no idea what to do and she yells really loud infront of patients that I am “not studying” or “paying attention” I am I just don’t understand calculating the goal based on the patient without taking time to think about. On the spot I’m unsure. It’s really embarrassing to be yelled at infront of patients. The FA over heard and said she’s being a little too tough, but she responded that she has told me many time before and I’m not comprehending it. I am not when I only have 30 seconds to think about it and then when I ask for help after our shifts everyone tells me that it will depend on the patient and getting to know them better 🤦🏾♂️ how am I supposed to not look dumb?!?!? Everything else I am doing right and fast. I’m even 6 weeks into training out of 12 and I have passed my exam with a 95%, I canulate without missing, I get our bay turned over fast, yet I’m still not “studying & comprehending”. 😣 I’m also doing all this going to school full time and taking care of my family.
