Thank you, I've been dialysing for 5 years and this is the best piece of training I've ever seen. I 'm going to ask my consultant to make these videos available to all new dialysis nurses and maybe new patents. On a more personal note I need to have a 'proximal revision in the mid forearm above the arterial needling site' can you give me a layman's definition?

Hello Lindsey! I wanted to express my gratitude for the amazing videos you've created. As a newly minted nurse entering the field of dialysis, I found your tutorials to be incredibly helpful. Without your videos, I would have been completely lost. I was wondering if you could possibly provide a cheat sheet that I, as a student or new nurse, could refer to regularly? Thank you again.

Thanks for your channel, i am a new dialysis patient (role of 6 perfectly applies), made about 12 dialysis sessions till no, and unfortunately each time they insert the needles, one of them (usually proximal one) cases trauma and partial thrombosis to the vein. this happened in 11 out of the 12 sessions. Can i use the usual IV plastic cannula so it may be nice to the vein than the iron needle?
@dialysisnurselindsey3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry this is happening to you, but unfortunately this is common with new fistulas. The best thing we can do when we cannot get the needle in successfully is to rest the fistula (might need a catheter--up to you and the provider), ice the fistula (to decrease swelling). And sometimes the new fistula needs to see the vascular surgeon or interventional radiology to see why the needles aren't going in well. Sometimes the new fistula needs some tweaking before it starts working well.
@dialysisnurselindsey3 жыл бұрын
omg and how could I forget, fistula exercises! usually squeezing a stress ball for 5 minutes per day to increase the blood flow to your fistula so the fistula gets nice and fat for the needles :)
@dialysisnurselindsey3 жыл бұрын
some dialysis units do use plastic cannula's. My clinic does not, so I do not have much experience with them
