Hey there potters. This is a very simple Pottery tool review. Today we're reviewing the highly sought after Diamond Core Trim tools. In this review we will be comparing the diamond core T-6 and T-7 a.k.a the spade and avocado to the kemper pair trim tool. These potters tools are usually meant for someone who is about past the beginning phases of trimming and had a little more experience with trim or carving. They both did fantastic although my personal opinion is that the Diamond core tools are more specialized.
Thank you Diamond core for sending me these tools. They cut like butter :)
hope you enjoy the video :) stay safe.

I do use their trim tools (yes, even the diamond shaped one) only for trimming. Their carving tools for carving are EVEN BETTER!!!!!! You'd love them! Love all your videos, Dante. You're awesome!

Came back here to let you know, this video motivated me to buy a Kemper tool. I didn't get the nice carbon one, but damn...it's definitely nicer than the tool in my starter set. 10/10, will definitely buy the carbon one when this one dulls out.

One day would you be able to review sponge on a stick for getting water out of narrow necked pots? I notice both Kemper, and Xiem have some or perhaps you have come up with home made versions that work well. I’m using an old sponge held on a stick with a rubber band with mixed success.

Use a zip tie instead of a rubber band. Been using this with absolute success for a long time

I adore all DCT tools. By far my favorite tools. I've had mine for years and still sharp! They will stay sharp until they get so thin, you have no choice but replace the blade.

Yeah B looks like it worked for the type of carving you wanted to do. I guess I've been using carving tools to trim my whole potter career.

I find that although the companies clearly label them what they are most of us use them interchangeably

I'm doing a pit firing soon in a Chimenea, I was wondering if you have any suggestions for me when I do this. By the way, I love your channel, it has been such a big help for me!

Make sure your pottery is protected from drafts. If you are firing green ware (as in you haven't bisque fired it) let it cool slowly after firing don't use a water hose. I usually rake the ashes back up around the pottery and let it cool over night and into the next day. If you choose to cook over top of the fire don't add metal carbonates. And baked potatoes should be double wrapped with aluminum foil before cooking and placed low but still accessible.

@@Ryan6.022 ...I can't tell if the baked potato thing was a joke or not, but my parents did own a chimenea when I was young. Two, actually, but we only used one. ...actually that sounds like a great way to fire pottery at home. Damn. ._. I wonder if my landlord would allow me to put one out...

@@TJtheBee nope not a joke firing pottery with wood can take a few hours and you will get hungry. Might as well knock out two birds with one stone.

As a potter my feedback regarding using the trimming tool as a carving tool would be that the trimming tool is a bit big or cumbersome for carving. I have more control over my carving motion and depth by using a tool with a more compact blade. Compact blade and thinner handle with foam gives me much more control and comfort with repetitive hand motions.

Pottery trimming videos are therapeutic. But I was very sad when I got to the end and you smashed the cup. I wanted to see what it looked like glazed with all the different colors in the pits.

another con to the diamond t7 I see is the angle of the "flat" side. it looks like it'd be awkward to hold flat against a surface unless you angle it in a way that minimizes the line drawn even further than it is compared to the kemper already.
@EarthNationCeramics

Agreed. although I forgot to mention that in the video I was trimming a pot later on and the handle goes a little bit into the middle of the tool at the top. if you're trimming into the bottom of a foot the foot will essentially run into that part. As for the Kemper tool doesn't have anything that interrupts that

I guess the ones with one screws are for curving, the ones with two screws are more stable and for trimming... I have ordered both types but still on the way.
