As a 3D artist, nothing is more valuable than learning the process by which things are created. This allows a deep insight into the final look of a digital art piece, which is only possible due to the knowledge of the field - Not something I have, but something that you are providing in spades. Thank you for making videos like this, they're not only enjoyable and relaxing to watch, but also extremely valuable and informative, not just to potters.

Just started on my pottery journey. When starting something as a hobby it always feels kind of sad to know you are most likely not going to be throwing anything nearly as good as somebody who got professionally trained for years, but it is definitely inspiring to see what highest form of mastery like you have looks like. There are as many styles as potters just do your thing, it takes a while to find your own way, sure we are all influenced by others but try not to be discouraged by not being able to replicate their work. Only Florian can make his work and only you can do yours, enjoy the process and you just have to put the time in, thats the fun bit seeing the evolution of your craft. Have fun and the great thing about clay is you don't have to fire everything just reclaim and go again. 🤓 ✌️

Coming from the UK but now living in the US I love all your videos, so informative I learn so much. On the spinner you use, my husband has been making them for awhile now. All sizes widths, lengths etc. He makes me many other potters tools. He is handy to have around with all his 3D, laser etc machines. 🙂

Aha! Well, I suppose not everyone will read the Q&A on my website! One day I really want an apprentice or two, but I'm not quite in the right place at the moment for one, plus, with all the KZbin videos I create, I'd be telling them to be quiet for most of the day as I'm recording!

Wouldn't be without my spinner when trimming now having watched your technique ... when I've finished a bowl I always pick up my one of yours that I have and think ' yep not quite there yet!' It's a useful goal to aim for though.. 😊

I started watching your channel Florian, to learn how pottery was made and especially to see if what you do can be applied to the wood pieces I make. I fell in love with the compositions, the angles, the proportions, the colours and more. Your work is the highest calibre! Thank you for sharing!

Crazy how the edges of the metal ribs are so much paler than the rest from being ground down on the pots! :O Watching you run your finger over the edges made me worry you were going to slice yourself open on them

This was such a good video! My favorite tools are pretty much the same as yours but lately I have been loving my full loop tungsten trimmer. I also love the big round wooden rib for opening up/shaping bowls from Hsinchuen. I liked your statement about potters loving tools- that is so true. I like to buy all the tools and give them a try! I have a slight addiction 😂. I also loved your statement about the studio a potter works in. I worked hard to make my space aesthetically pleasing because I need that to inspire me.

I encountered you and your videos pretty early in my ceramic journey, so you've had quite an influence. Appreciate it. Here's some various thoughts: You should make a game of what your 6th favourite tool is. I'm guessing blowtorch. For maximum benefit, I recommend all potters be both a kiwi and have adhd. Personally I've found this means you'll make all the tools you need from whatever you have at hand, plus you'll have a vast array of highly beneficial transferable skills such as wood working, jewellery making, metal working and so on. UX is also a handy skill, along with graphic design. I've been working on making my own tungsten tools. Jaejun flat blade style are very achievable with fairly common tools. Bison pear loops and 7 shapes are harder, but might be possible with a waterjet. Stay tuned. There's a number of spinner models available online for 3d printers. I'm finding them tricky as they'll wobble off centre. Likely user error. I built a mirror add-on for my splash tray. It sits at the back so the reflection is quite far away. I think mirrors need to be quite close, so I'm problem solving how to have a mirror close without wasting my precious tray space. Looking forward to the next tips video, and question: can we somehow recycle old laptop batteries to get a bit of lithium?

I really like the sharp edges you get when you trim-it seems like they soften a bit after you glaze-would it be possible to keep them sharper after glazing by trimming them to be more like a cusp than a corner?

@@diegaah if i were to conceptualize it, super glue or weld a stick with a flat top to the inside of the barring so that the outside still spins, just make sure you get the stick on centered so it's easier to trim with it. Thats just me spitballing ideas though, ceramics is like 25% winging it i feel

Yes, I was wondering this, too. It seems like it would be an easy enough thing to replicate with if the construction was known. You can even see that the long one is made out is using a plastic pipe.

​@@floriangadsbyI don't know if this is what you mean, but a friend 3d printed a very similar spinner from a free design he found online. While I appreciate that they might have ripped off the artist's original design, they also made available a very useful tool to a lot of people.

skint as I am I recycled a mirror from an old woman dressing table and screw it on my tool rack and as tools I used old cutlery, bend with a vice and grind to shape with a bench grinder. rough round the edges but they 're all right.
