My 'new years resolution' type mission last year was to make it the Year of Getting Sh1t done which mostly translated to "I have way too much clutter and I'd like to open a cupboard or drawer and find what I'm looking for without entering mortal combat with everything else stuffed in there". I am usually in the camp of enthusiasm that quickly wanes but this time I was a) a bit more determined to declutter and b) came up with a cunning plan to do it. The cunning plan was every week, I would set me and my other half homework for a Saturday morning chore and a very strict timer of 1 hour maximum and only a small job and it worked sooooo well (I was pleasantly surprised with how the other half got on board with it so easily too). Working with such a short window to tackle a job, you're forced to make quick decisions and there's less chance of decision paralysis and then because it didn't take long you're tempted to do something else...but with a strict timer you have to stop and say..."I'll do that next week instead". And suddenly I wasn't dreading doing the decluttering chore anymore, I was actually eager because I'd stopped while I was still feeling good about doing it rather than stopping because I'd been overwhelmed. I originally only planned to do our Saturday chores for January and if it went well, maybe into February - we ended up doing something virtually every Saturday until September LOL. And now the Holiday's are over, we plan to start doing it again this year. Little and often (and most importantly, having a hard cut off time) is definitely the way! If you've not found her yet, I really recommend checking out Clutterbug on YT - she has lots of videos from huge clear outs to tossing out 5 things a day (I can hear her now "just 5 things friends") type tips. Another of her mantras is "you don't have to win this first time, it just has to be better". I started 'my system' by myself, but after I found her videos it really helped keep me at it as I found her videos surprisingly motivational. Wow, that turned into a wall of text 🙃 😺😺

Holy wall of text CatMan 😂 I remember you talking about your year of getting it done and was impressed! Maybe I need to try something like that! I agree being on top of it will make it easier long term, little habits can have big rewards. I'll have to check out Clutterbug, I come from a long line of cluttery people 😂

Please don’t put off everything you want to do until latter if you don’t have too. My husband and I got married young and had our children young because we wanted to be young enough to travel when our kids were grown and we retired. The problem is now that my husband has dementia and should not be left alone. Because of this not only inability to travel but also unable to even go out for the day alone for a spa day.

I completely understand what you are saying. My mom and dad planned a bunch of stuff when they both retired. But before my mom could retire my dad had a massive stroke and needed around the clock care for 12 years before passing. It’s hard to find a balance of what you want to do and what you need to do. 🩷

Color blocking is fine for me in small chunks.. big areas are a huge NOPE 😂 There are a few colors that are looking low, but it's a small canvas so hoping it will be ok. Haven't really looked ahead to see how many drills I still need.
