Here is the final video in the diamond twill pattern series for rigid heddle loom.
In this video you will see me work the weaving sequence in what order and placement the heddles should be to obtain the diamond twill pattern.
I feel like I have apologized a lot throughout these videos and I have one more sorry for the change in camera angle at the end.

Thank you so much for the diagram and videos! It took much concentration to thread the heddles but I split the work into the 14 threads and it worked!!! I used pearl cotton so the threads would not stick with 10 dent reed-great!!!

I’m warped, threaded and anxious to start weaving so I can see the magic unfold. Your videos made it so easy to figure out (tho patience is a must). I’m confounded as to how someone would figure this out! Back slot, front hole; 2 slots back, hole, slot front. How do you figure it out? And where do you find more patterns like this? I have weaving books but they don’t show this type of pattern.

Thanks so much for this series. I am a not-yet weaver and I was reluctant to buy a rigid heddle loom because I thought you couldn’t do a twill weave. You’ve revealed that with two heddles you can do a very complex weave. All it takes is a lot of concentration and patience. Have you thought about writing the heddle sequence on the forward heddle?

I noticed that you didn't appear to need to catch the last thread on either side, but I needed to grab it frequently. So perhaps I just really messed up threading.

Have any of you noticed that occasionally the last warp thread isn’t lifted opposite the last step? I don’t see her having to lift the end thread to put the shuttle under it but I have to twice or three times in every 14 step sequence. Am I doing anything wrong? Want to know before I’m beyond my header (which I’ve just finished.

It was a rough estimate. I've made several cowl and have gone off previous projects. Does that make sense? Kind of trial and error. I'm now working on a table top loom and working more on calculating my warp :)

I’m getting closer .... my yarn was super grabby so all yarn kept sticking together. I solved some of the shed problems. However the 2 sequence with the front heddle down and the back heddle up makes 4 threads up and three threads down . I get a three three float on that one. Any thoughts why?

Thank you so much! I have a gorgeous handwoven shawl in a diamond twill and I’ve always wanted to recreate that pattern in my RH weaving. Did you weave the header in pattern? Is there an advantage/disadvantage to doing that? I probably would default to weaving a plain weave header.

Usually, the twill weave is tighter than plain weave so the header (theoretically) will be wider than the twill portion unless you do it with a weft yarn that is quite a bit thinner than the weft yarn used in the twill. For example, when I do towels in 8/2 cotton in a twill, I do the header in 10/2 or 16/2. That makes the hem easier to deal with. If you don’t have a hem, then the fanning out of the header is a preference.

I did everything exactly like you said but I used a 8 dent reed. It doesn’t work.The two heddles down leaves a gap that makes floats. I went through the top shed on the first sequence so that’s not the problem. I checked the threading numerous times so that’s right. Is it the 8 dent reed? So sad I couldn’t get it to work.

Hard to say without seeing photos should work just fine with the 8 dent.

OK. I tested this out with some cheap cotton and I have two more stupid questions - (1) do you get long floats on the edges? I have a couple rows where the weft doesn't catch the selvedge edge in a row - alternating sides of the fabric. Is this normal? and (2) I added one extra set of two threads at the end to make it seem symmetric (back heddle: slot, hole; front heddle: first thread doubles in the last slot, then skip a hole and then use next slot). Is this right? Thank you in advance!

Could I ask what weight yarn you used I have 2x7.5 and 2x12.5 heddles so I am torn between the two , would the 12.5 produce a finer drape but loose the detail ? Or should I go with my trusted 7.5 and do a ??? Yarn sorry if this is a bit confused what I would like to produce is a shawl with a nice drape but no clue on yarn to use 🤦‍♀️

I am so aggravated. I have NO up-up shed, and NO down-down shed. Flat. My up/neutral and down/neutral sheds are messy. I. Am. So. Aggravated. It took me all day just to thread the front heddle, after it took me all day to thread the back heddle. (To be fair, that's stop/start/stop/start to deal with other distractions). But ugh. I KNOW the back heddle is threaded according to this chart, I double, triple, and quadruple counted and checked it. I sure hope it's just the front heddle, something I did wrong, though I counted out loud the entire time, I'm about to unlash it and re-sley the front heddle. I have been having more trouble getting 2 heddles threaded right the first time lately, the WORST time of it. Unnngh!

Hello Val, I am so sorry to hear you are aggravated :-( First thing there will never be a heddle in the down position while the other is in neutral. 1: Front heddle up Back heddle neutral 2: Back heddle up Front heddle neutral 3: Both heddles down. Hopefully you can try this before having to retread your from heddle. Also make sure no threads are crossed. Hope this helps. Keep me posted!

Hens-n-Chicks Fiber Arts I was just trying to put a little header on, not start the weaving yet. There is up-up and down-down, however, and for that I have no shed at all. Never had this problem before. Not YOUR fault, all on my end. I’ll pull the front heddle off, check the back again, and redo the front again tomorrow.

Okay. I rethreaded the front heddle. I think what I have is sticky yarn, never would have thought mercerized cotton would be sticky. I was having to manually fix the shed for every pick except 2, with 3 being the worst. So, with the shed open for 3, I inserted a pickup stick and keep it shoved to the back. Every time I get to 3, I pull it forward to pop open the shed, then shove it back. Success! I only have to slow down and be really careful with 1, keeping the stick shuttle firmly against the top. I have now done three full sets, and can clearly see a flawless diamond twill when I step back.
