Replacing the bearings for a guide wheel for my diamond wire saw. I purchased these wheels from China. They are very common on Chinese diamond wire saws. The bearings in one only lasted a few hours before needing replacement. The bearing had spun on the shaft as well. I think one of the suppliers may have sold me a used wheel with new liner. But that's just a guess, could just as well be poorly manufactured bearings. I replaced with SKF bearings.
Chinese saws that use these wheels:
SAT HOLDING LIMITED • MONO WIRE SAW MACHINE
Hercules Abrasives & Cutting Tools Co., Ltd. • QCXE-1500 cnc wire saw...
Xianda • Xianda diamond wire sa...

Great video. I noticed when you cut shapes, the guide rollers do not change their position following the direction of the wire. Are there any problems with this?

I have purchased parts (servos, gearboxes with hollow shaft) and figured out the math (I think) to calculate the rotation (normal to the direction of travel)... HOWEVER as you see just leaving them in place they work well enough. The liners wear faster than if the wheels stayed normal to travel. It's on my list of things to make better :) but for now the robot takes up my spare time. FWIW on the first Italian CNC saws the guide wheels did not move.

Also I should mention, that when doing wire profiling (CNC cutting) I generally cut a bit slower (feed rate), than if just cutting straight down making slabs. For wire cutting there is always a "bow" in the wire. So the center of the cut always lags the edges. If you have too much bow the center will not have the same shape as the edges. The CAM software also compensates for this by slowing the feed rate for changes of direction. But I also cut slower so there is less bow, you can't go too slow or the cut will be rough. If I were to go too fast there is a risk the wire would jump off the guide wheels since they do not follow the cut.

who did you get the pulleys from in china, i am looking to build something similar and not sure who to trust. i have been looking at madeinchina.com and alibaba.com do you remember the company? Thanks!

These small pulley wheels were purchased from Skystone (www.wire-saw-machines.com/ ) and Hercules Abrasives (www.herculesabrasives.com/ ). Hercules was the better of the two for ease of dealing with them, email susieweng@herculesabrasives.com tell her I referred you. I know of another person who has used Hercules with success (look up Ideal Quarry, Art is the owner and builds saws). There is a point where you wire transfer the money and just cross your fingers everything goes OK :) . You can contact me at my youtube username (greg9504) @ gmail.com, if you want to run ideas about your saw by me.

@@GregsStoneYard Okay, Thanks! I will do some checking into both places. I'm looking to use a Deutz td2011 on concrete saw frame for a power source. this unit has a 10 groove 3vx sheave, was planning to use five grooves for the power transfer to the second sheave? i need to do some figuring on sheave size to get the rpm in range at the drive pulley. Do you think i could use a 12 Volt electromagnet mower clutch to start and stop the wire saw?

@@merctv8957 Sorry missed this earlier. Gas/diesel power is doable but electric is simpler if you have the option. Use a VFD you can control the speed and use 3 phase motors from single phase (that's what I'm doing). I'm not sure what you mean by using "five grooves for the power transfer to the second sheave", do you mean you think you need to power both large wheels? You don't. There is a drive and driven wheel, think of the cutting cable as being like a big pulley. How many horsepower is the engine? You might be able to use the clutch from an automotive AC compressor but I'm not sure how well it would would. If you don't have electricity available a big generator might be the way to go. If you get one that generates 3 phase then you don't need the VFD (at least to start). For you calculations you want the wire to run at around 24 meters/second. Ideally adjustable in a range from 22-30 m/s. Slower harder stones, faster softer.
