I love riding my SHIV, when I'm down in the drops, the front wheel doesn't oscillate as much on my road bike, so I feel the downtube molded to the back of the front tire would be aero. Looks like a lot of excess carbon for minimal gain, riders of this frame would definitely stand out, and I think those seeking that attention are attracted to this bike.

To your point about disk brakes: While I agree that triathletes don't "need" disk brakes on a full tri bike like this, the reason that I think you'll see more and more of these is that the industry seems intent on pushing them on road bikes which means that wheel manufacturers will be putting more time and money into the development of these wheels. If you lose the need to have a flat brake track then you can start to shape the air from the moment in meets the rim. Specialized has shown in their wind tunnel (I refuse to use its official name) that disk brakes aren't significantly slow in terms of aero. And this was without fairing the calipers in like Parlee has done recently. Combine this with the ability to have a carbon rim without any of the down sides in terms of wet weather braking...... I think there is an argument for it. If mountain bikers can learn to travel with hydro disk brakes, I'm sure we can. In short, the reason I don't think it's a fad is a) it isn't any slow aero wise b) the braking is much better c) and most importantly (or is it cynically) the frame, wheel and component companies have invested too much money for this not to be a fad.

I am coming around a bit to the disk thing. Agree with rim shape. As Cervelo designer said it also gives more freedom with fork (crown) shape. How about getting a wheel swap in a race tho? Neutral support will need to start carrying disk wheels. I am assuming all use same dia rotors. Hed guy also confirmed low drag penalty for disk across yaw spectrum. Altho tough to generalize about anything aero and as you say they have alot invested in this.

ttbikefitdotcom --> I thought you meant it wouldn't go well because it would complicate the teardown for travel and packaging of the bike.

I think it's only fair to the manufacturer and designers as well as your viewers that you become knowledgeable with a bike before you post on it. I looked to this video for guidance and info, not a negative "bias" personal opinion when you were confused on some of its design characteristics. Could've had a subscriber here.

What about speed bumps??? Wont that hit the frame....

Some countries have slightly peculiar speed bumps on the road that will not bode well for the ground clearance on the frame. And not being able to handle the bars properly .... looks dangerous right from the outset.

if your wheel moves back and forth, true your wheel, its not that hard

worst bike review I have seen, your comments on the faring based on an "industry insider" years ago is not real evidence it doesn't work. This video was not a review yet a biased opinion

Maybe that is exactly why the video was entitled "first look" (note date Oct 2016) and not "review". The description does contain a bit of a review (positive) based on a test ride a year later (Oct 2017).

Too much surface area to catch crosswinds. Watching Michael Weiss racing this in Kona live on ironman.com he was getting blown all over the place. Add to that a very unappealing look and you have a bike that very few will buy. Just my $.02.
