I really enjoy races between 800 and 5000 metres because I appreciate the tactics and their execution by the runners involved in winning that race. Above 5000 metres I get bored. Depending on one's fitness and temperament I've noticed 4 basic strategies namely: 1. Go to the front early in the race and don't let anyone pass you. Examples were Janeth Jepkosgei and Eunice Sum. 2. Stay in second position and make your move with 1-2 laps to go. Examples are Hellen Obiri and Laura Muir and Keely Hodgkinson. 3. Stay close to the back of the pack and move to the front with 1-2 laps to go. Examples is Sifan Hassan. There's also the riskiest but most enjoyable to watch which is making ones move from the back of the pack with about 200-300 metres left in the race. It,of course, requires an accurate assessment of the racers in front of you,the distance left and your finishing kick at that point in time. This has been the trademark tactic of Raevyn Rogers. And Kelly Holmes.

His #1 tactics are shoving, heel stepping and being a general nuisance in the race 😅
