Back when she had a great future (2016). She did accomplish a lot in her subsequent career, but this performance indicated WR potential that was never manifested. Note also that there was perfect pacesetting in this race through 1100M, which the video does not show.
@Gardener710 ай бұрын
I think she never broke the WR because she stayed clean.
@gregorypalardy714110 ай бұрын
@Gardener7 Could be, but she ran this WL of 3:55.24 at age 24, blowing away an excellent field, so I had high hopes for her future. But she only PR'd in the 1,500m once since (3:54.50 in 2021). That said she has an Olympic Silver and World Championship Bronze, so she's had a great career, just not dominant as she showed potential for on this evening in 2016.
@Gardener710 ай бұрын
@@gregorypalardy7141 I have also been following her since then. She is a joy to watch. I also hoped she would have run faster. 🏃♀️ You can be sure that she always put in 100% effort. Her defeat by Africans I put down to rampant epo usage over there. I was a documentary on it.
@simmorg290Ай бұрын
The world record was 3:50 at the time so I'm not sure she showed the potential to run that fast. However you could make the argument that her time was a world record. The only athletes faster than her were either Eastern Europeans in the heyday of the state sponsored drug regimes in the 1980s, the Chinese with their turtle soup in the early 90s and Dibaba who herself was suspected of taking drugs. I agree with you though about Muir. She was the best in the world that year. The rest of her career, despite her medals, was somewhat of a disappointment. Some of the others improved by huge amounts and she stayed still. This won't be a popular opinion but it does seem "interesting" to me that Kipyegon has improved by over seven seconds since then.
