For you, and all those in your audience that may not know about this performance, it took place on September 25, 2021. This was Diana Ankudinova the first performance on a new Russian vocal competition called the “ShowMaskGoOn!”. Diana’s opening of cover of the Elvis Presley classic Can't Help Falling In Love, she demonstrated what many vocal professionals say she had developed into, which is a true contralto voice type and a true contralto female voice is very, very rare. Now, a female singer's vocal range is one of the defining factors of a voice type. In 2017, at 13 years old, her vocal range measured from a low of D3 to a high of A5, which places her in the vocal range of an Alto, which was very good but low for a 13-year-old girl. Five years later at age 18, during this performance, her vocal range was again measured, and her functional vocal range was measured from a low C3 which is in the male Tenor range, to a high Bb5 which is in the female Mezzo Soprano range. This means Diana has almost 3 full octaves of vocal range. Diana’s upper range improvement is now on full display during the mid-portion of this performance for all to hear. Diana herself has said during interviews she was not very happy with her lack of a higher vocal range, which kept her out of the more prestigious music academies. Diana and her vocal coach decided to work extensively on developing a higher vocal range. The improvement to her upper range is on display during the middle portion of this performance. But it is not just how low or high she can go, it is the exceptional quality of her tone in her lower range. It's in the roundness, fullness, and depth of her voice, plus her ability to access and use an enormous amount of resonance. Diana's ability to create and use this resonance helps in further defining Diana as a dramatic contralto which is the rarest of the rare contralto voice types, and dramatic contraltos have the deepest, darkest sound, and is the most powerful contralto voice type. At the end of this performance, the full depth and power of a dramatic contralto voice is on full display. So, the question people ask is how does Diana do it? How is it possible an 18-year-old female singer to achieve these low, rich, deep, round, and profound sounds? Unfortunately, without actually scoping her vocal tract while she is producing these low notes to see what is happening, the general conciseness of many vocal professionals is simply attributing Diana's unique ability to her many hours of training with her vocal teacher, and her winning the genetic lottery. Diana was just born with her unique vocal anatomy. Diana's vocal folds (vocal cords) appear to be longer and thicker than the majority of female singers. Her larynx appears to be larger and her pharynx similarly appears to be longer than the majority female singers, and in additionally, she has a large oral cavity. When you combine all these attributes, Diana Ankudinova’s unique vocal anatomy gives her the ability to produce the low, deep, rich, and full sounds, she is known for, but without actually scoping the vocal track to verify, there is no way to be 100% sure. Diana is also a master at using a vocal technique known as polyphonic singing, which is an extraordinary accomplishment for someone so young. singers that have mastered polyphonic singing can create one, and up to two different tones and sometimes three at the same time which adds to the harmonic overtones and undertones that can make it sound like more than one voice singing. It is this polyphonic ability that has some people believing Diana Ankudinova is using some form of artificial electronic voice manipulation or is using some kind of pitch correction software to alter or adjust her sound. Others believe another person is singing in the background off stage, or Diana is lip-syncing over a previously recorded vocal track that was altered or modified. There is no artificial manipulation of Diana's voice happening at all, and no one else is singing off stage, nor is she lip-syncing to a vocal track. The other voices you are hearing are all backing tracks used to fill in and round out the performance along with the musical score. Diana Ankudinova and only Diana Ankudinova is singing Can't Help Falling In Love. At then end of the 9 week’s, during the final episode of the "ShowMaskGoOn", Diana Ankudinova was the last to perform with her cover of Can't Help Falling In Love. Diana was competing against 9 other professional singers who also doubled as the judges. This vocal competition was televised over nine weeks, one episode per week with the other professional singers, also competing with each other, and based on the individuals performance they awarded judging points to each other. When not competing, Diana was also a member of this judging panel. Every week, each singer took the stage and performed a different song over each of the nine weeks. Each contestant also had to sing using different genres and different styles. The ShowMaskGoOn! concluded on November 20, 2021, and during Diana's performance, the male judge on the top row, who was the first to stand is a famous Russian opera tenor, Yusif Eyvazov from Azerbaijan, who was invited to participate as a special guest judge for this competition. Yusif Eyvazov is married to the world-famous Russian opera soprano Anna Netrebko. At the end of Diana's performance, she receives a standing ovation from all her fellow competitors. One of those competitors is a well-known contemporary Russian singer, Julia Parshuta, who is the blond woman standing in the center row dressed in red and looks dumbfounded at the end of Diana's performance. Julia Parshuta puts both hands on top of her head, with a look of total shock and bewilderment. Finally, The inaugural season of the ShowMaskGoOn concluded with Diana Ankudinova being awarded to most judging points and winning this new competition!

Here are three reasons why Diana (the Queen of Goosebumps) doesn't sound human. First, she is a contralto, which is the absolute rarest type of female voice. It allows her to sing very dramatic/powerful, very (I mean VERY) deep, very dark, very rich. Second, she has a spectacular larynx. She's been called the vocal Eighth Wonder of the World. Third, she is polyphonic, which means she can produce multiple harmonics within her voice at the same time. This is what allows her to sound like two people at once. (more below) When you add all that up you basically get a person who creates her own auto-tune. She doesn't need electronic auto-tune. She IS her own auto-tune. And the effect when you hear her is totally mind-blowing. It's like she's singing right through you, like a sword straight into your soul. Literally NOBODY else on the planet has a voice like hers. She's not one in a million, she's one in eight billion. Having watched well over 100 initial reactions to her, only one did NOT say she was "unique".
