Polyushko-polye (Russian: По́люшко-по́ле, IPA: [ˈpolʲʊʂkə ˈpolʲɪ]) is a Soviet Russian-language song. Polye means "field" in Russian, "polyushko" is a diminutive/hypocoristic form for "polye". It is also known as Meadowlands, Song of the Plains, Cavalry of the Steppes or Oh Fields,

This well-known Russian march was composed by Lev Knipper and written by Victor Gusev. The original lyrics date from 1933.
Although it hails from the Stalinist era, this is not actually a war or military song, but is about women back home supporting the war effort while waiting for their men to return home.

The song was sung from the perspective of a young Red Army soldier going off to defend his people and homeland. A terrifying prospect which I cannot even imagine! The song was written before the Second World War in 1933, but since we are talking about fighters who go to the endless field of war, it became one of the popular songs of Soviet soldiers, symbolizing their feat in the victory over fascism. Have you noticed how Diana walks between the majestic trees, like between heroes, and at the end puts flowers on a stump? Felled tree = ruined life. There was a forest, and there is a field... 27 million lives of Soviet people were lost because of the idea of someone's national superiority. Thanks to Diana for publishing this song on May 9, the Victory Day in the Great Patriotic War of the USSR with Nazi Germany.

This song is devoted to the victory of the Soviet Union's Red Army over N.a.z.i. Germany and the prize the Russian people paid for that victory. Official numbers have it that more than 27 Russians died in WWII but also that the Red Army also inflicted 80% of the overall casualties to the German Army. And the latter is something that nowadays not many people in the western world are aware of. Without the Red Army and the immense sacrifice of the Russian people there wouldn't have been a victory over N.A.Z.I. Germany in 1945. In fact there is no Russian family that has not been affected and endured losses during this war. Diana really understands to pack all the emotions the Russian people feel into this song.
