Greetings from Scotland! That VR technology they use as a backdrop is something else, watch the next song *"Twist in my sobriety" (Tanita Tikaram)* it's an even better backdrop! Anyway, just about every Russian alive knows the words to this song by heart! It's several hundreds of years old and basically it's about a Cossack dreaming of his own death. Metaphorically, in the dream, his black had gets blown off his head by an evil wind, but it means it's his head that actually gets blown off, not his hat. He tells his dream to his Captain who explains what the dream means. That's the basic story. As you said, Diana doesn't just sing the song, she wraps the song around her and becomes the young Cossack, experiencing what he experienced and the audience feel all that emotion from Diana.
