Since you have a collection of Russian songs, I was curious if you are familiar with Polina Gagarina and her song "Cuckoo" ("Кукушка" in Russian language, "Kukushka" is how that would be pronounced in English) from the Singer competition 2019? It's AMAZING! kzbin.info/www/bejne/imKmoGZol9KgiNk (You are probably familiar with Dimash Kudaibergen who competed during the 2017 season of Singer.) I've read that Diana has sung "Cuckoo" as well, though I don't know if it was a complete performance or if Diana sang the same arrangement as Polina did or a version more similar to the original song.

The song developed as follows: Viktor Tsoi wrote the song in 1990; around 2011, an arrangement was made and the song was sung by Olga Kormukhina; in 2015, another arrangement was made for the film and the song was sung by Polina Gagarina. In the latter version, most people listen to it =) Direct links can be erased, so I will write the names of the videos in Russian so that they can be copied and found. Russian Folk compilation with a modern arrangement. Diana has the perfect voice for this primal, mystical, magical song. The song rechenka or little river, is a Russian folk song, even before Christianity, that an orphan girl comes to the river and prays to the spirits of nature. I will explain to you the meaning of this old Russian song that was sung during the wedding. Since a much shortened version was made for the scene, not even all Russian people understand its meaning. An orphan girl from a foster family is married off (most likely to a man older than her). She comes to the river (reka), affectionately calling it rechenka. The river in the folklore of many peoples is the border between the world of the living and the dead. She turns to her deceased parents: she asks for advice and blessings. An orphan girl is faced with a choice - to drown herself, committing the sin of suicide, or still accept the circumstances and "go with the flow". What will she choose? This is decided by the audience together with the performer of this song.

This song is about an orphan's wedding. This is a conversation between the bride and the river, which takes care of her on behalf of her mother, or, perhaps, with the spirit of her gone mother - on the banks of the river (the ancient Slavs, as well as the ancient Greeks or Egyptians, believed that the river symbolized the border of two worlds, the world of the living and the world of the dead, or a road from one world to another).The girl says that the groom is rich and the celebration is great, but you shouldn't believe the abundance of guests, fun and smiles. Something remains unspoken, this marriage seems to be at odds with the bride's heart. The ending of the entire scene stays uncertain, but the fact that the heroine is sailing in a boat down the river indicates that she decides to go to her mother. The song itself is very uneasy to perform. Earlier renditions (dated back to 1970-80-ies) were not so convincing. Diana's interpretation is absoltely epic, full of life, sense and emotion. I suspect it is in part due to the progression of the competition, where contestants are encouraged to push their strengths. I enjoyed this song much better than Human. In Human the undertones in her voice are so strong that the vocals sound a little nasal and compressed. It's not that her vocals are bad in any way in her performance of Human it is simply that her vocals are so unique that the everyday person listening to her has a hard time understanding how they are even possible without some type of electronic assistance. I love listening to Diana her voice is addictive.

Yeah! I actually go in to this in a reaction that comes out tomorrow, for the BTS cover of Fix You. The way shapes are formed, and sounds projected, can make a natural English singer sound so much different from someone that speaks a smoother, or harsher language. Linguistics in performance is so intricate, and can drastically alter the songs inflection and delivery.

Diana is a dramati c alto, the rarest alto type. Dimash is the universe, but Diana is the earth, our home ... and when you hear her voice you feel like she has wrapped you in a warm velvet blanket and served you a mug of hot, dark chocolate. Every song is a unique experience, it captivates you, you feel bound by magic. Diana was born May 2003. 31 in Arsenyev in the Far East Russia. She didn't have a happy start in life. The woman who gave birth to her, had 12 pregnancies, only Diana survived... and she did not love her child, mistreated her severely and tried to drown her. Relatives found the child with a broken collarbone in the street and took the 3- year-old girl to a children's home shortly thereafter. Finally, there she found love... from Irina Ponik, who worked as a massage therapist and treated children from the orphanage. Irina Ponik and her daughter Nastya fell in love with Diana. Taking a child into the family was of course not easy for Irina ... Of course, taking a child into the family was not easy for Irina but she became her 'mother' when Diana was 5 years. Diana now lives in a poor but loving family. Diana spoke badly but sang all the songs from cartoons. An acquaintance of her mother, a musician, noticed that Diana had a perfect pitch and advised her to take singing lessons. So Diana took lessons from the singing teacher Elena Anatolyevna Kazantseva, who discovered Diana's talent. And so it all started ... The Arseniev period lasted from the end of 2008 to September 2012. During this time Diana sang around 40 songs, including at competitions. Diana's mother became her daughter's manager, she found the addresses of music competitions, negotiated with the organizers and selected a repertoire. Everything that has to do with Diana's singing training, performances and competitions is organized and coordinated by her mother Irina Ponik. She is looking for sponsors because flights are expensive and took extra sewing courses. Since then she's been sewing all of Diana's stage costumes, because all of these things consume the family budget. She accompanies her daughter on trips and captures her life in photos and videos with the persistence of a visionary. After winning a competition in Moscow, Diana's mother was offered to leave the girl in a boarding school for gifted children. She refused and in 2012 moved with her small family to her hometown of Toglyatti, much closer to Moscow. Diana now also has a grandma and has also lost her fear that the woman who gave birth to her would kidnap her. 2013-2015 Diana played in the theater studio of Dmitry Marfin, director of children's programs at the Togliatti Philharmonic Society, whom Diana valued as 'a real workaholic and fan of her craft'. After her debut on June 3, 2014 (Diana played Becky Thatcher in the jazz musical 'Tom Sawyer and His Friends'), she met Svetlana Ivanovna Vovk, the director and pop singing teacher at the Togliatti College of Music and Rodion Shchedrin, member of the jury international and national music competitions and Diana's journey continued ... Diana's voice, her perfect pitch and her sense of rhythm were extraordinary even as a little girl and so she impressed with her talent in over 50 national and international competitions. So, in 2017 on February she went to Moscow, at the Russian 'The Voice Kids'. Diana took part and won. These performances were broadcast nationwide, uploaded to KZbin and made Diana known worldwide. She now has many millions of fans around the world. The final of the international singing competition for children 'You are Super' took place in the Kremlin Palace. The winner of the season will be determined by a 6-day public vote. Diana won a scholarship to the music college. Igor Krutoy gifted her a small apartment in Moscow so that she could begin her vocal training with the best teachers in Moscow such as Professor Olga Donskoy (she died of Covid-19 in October 2020).
