This is why I love KZbin. Christmas morning, on my own, just flicking idly through various clips & I stumble across this gem. Diana Dors, a true British icon, down-to-earth & real. A true star who deserved this wonderful tribute. Thank you for posting.

Diana Dors must be in her 40's or early 50's in this video, but just look how beautifully she preserved herself. She may have gained some weight [don't we all] with the passage of time. But look at that luminous face, its a treasure! She may have been called the oomph girl and other sex-symbol monikers, but she didn't bother to take this seriously because inside her was a very serious actress wanting desperately to get out. And she proved her thespianism time and again. I also loved her pillow-blonde hair which was so beautifully coiffed. For someone so adept at technicolor histrionics, she came across as remarkably serene and thoroughly at home in her life. Ageing didn't seem to bother her. Never mind that she plied her trade in England and the USA, where youth and comliness are rated at a premium. Yes, our lovely Diana was a "national treasure"!

What a rare gem this is, and such a thrill to find it on KZbin in its near-full version - THANK YOU! Diana Dors really was a national treasure, that term is bandied about but in DD's case it was well deserved. Diana was the prime example of 'the best is yet to come', because her earliest days of fame as a young and beautiful movie actress and personality were not her peak, but merely the opening act for her glorious prime as a middle aged star. Because her acting talent came with incredible natural charm, intelligence, insight and a wicked, lightning-quick wit. Diana was a great raconteur, and very funny! As an actress she was breathtaking, and the extra years (and pounds) only magnified her powerful screen presence. But Diana's best role was surely as herself - she was larger than life and oozed star quality, guaranteed to sparkle and steal the show on 'Parkinson' , 'Russell Harty', her friend Larry Grayson's 'Shut That Door' or any other chat show, and a wonderful addition to the many quiz and comedy shows she graced through the 1970s and 'eighties like 'Celebrity Squares' , 'The Two Ronnies' and 'Cannon and Ball'. I'm glad to say many of her movies and TV appearances can be found on KZbin. This woman had full strength star quality - when she moved into shot, all eyes went to her and whoever else was in the scene, however famous, became a mere support act! This infuriated Kenneth Williams when they were both guests on 'Parkinson', and Diana stole the limelight (Kenneth loved to 'hold court' with long anecdotes, and did not appreciate being upstaged!). He wrote about the experience rather waspishly in his private, posthumously published diaries - not many people could take the spotlight from Kenneth Williams in full flow, but with Diana it was effortless, she couldn't help it - she was just mesmeric! In 1984 Diana died tragically young of ovarian cancer, aged 52. If only she had lived long enough to do all the incredible acting roles she would undoubtedly have triumphed in, had she matured through her fifties and beyond. A great fan of 'Coronation Street', I think she would very likely have been offered - and accepted - a leading role in the BBC's new hit soap 'EastEnders' when it launched in 1985. Dare I say she would have made an incredible Pauline Fowler or Peggy Mitchell. No disrespect to Wendy Richard or Dame Barbara Windsor who played them so well, but Diana would have been glorious in those roles! I would have loved to have seen her as the landlady of the Queen Vic pub - as Peggy, Diana would have brought exactly the right mix of toughness, glamour and vulnerability, and I can just imagine her as both matriarch of the pub and as 'Ma' of the Mitchell brothers. Diana would have made Peggy's catchphrase "Get outta my pub!" her own. What a tantalising thought! In middle age, Diana didn't always get the quality movie roles she deserved, and there are quite a few low calibre films in her resume particularly in the 'seventies (she had to pay the bills - and she was always a grafter, though she didn't always give the taxman his share!) Good roles for older actresses back then were even rarer than they are today. But I think she would have come into her own during the 1980s and enjoyed a career resurgence, as a new generation discovered and fell in love with her (as young pop star Adam Ant did, securing her to star as Fairy Godmother in the music video for his Number One hit 'Prince Charming' in 1981). Diana's appeal crossed generations - had she only lived another 10 years, she was set to become a female icon, and a great role model for women. Alas, we are left to ponder what might have been - when we should of course be grateful for what was. Diana Dors continues to entertain and inspire millions of people, her magic immortalised on film for all eternity. She will forever be remembered with smiles and affection. This, her second appearance as the subject of a 'This is Your Life', is a great example from what turned out to be the end of her remarkable life. She never did get the glorious third act she would have delivered, that was so close to her grasp. We can only be glad of the wonderful first and second acts. Thank you so much for uploading this magical piece of Diana Dors nostalgia. Diana was quite simply a STAR - and 40 years after her death, when we are awash with 'celebrities' famous for no good reason, stars are rarer than ever. God bless you Diana, the real deal! 💋💋💋💋💋

@@joysynmonds9082 Jason never recovered from being orphaned at just 14, first losing his rock the magical Diana, and then his father Alan who alas could not go on without her. Diana's dying words to Alan were to look after her boys (she also had two sons by Dickie Dawson, based in LA) but Alan failed her. You could see in footage of her funeral, he was broken at her loss. Terrible for him - but how sad he couldn't have treasured their son and made a new life cherishing their history. Jason needed him so desperately! His death of alcoholism, came at a similar young age to his parents - just 50. God bless them all, may they be at peace now.

I met Diana and Alan a few months before she passed on, she was really so humble and nice to me and Alan was so proud of her and in love with her. He was a tough cookie and laughed his bollocks off when I saw his painted toe nails and had the nerve to take the p..ss. He couldn’t believe I had the nerve as a 25 year old. Diana for some reason just wanted to hug me. We had lunch and dinner together the same day at the Marbella club. Some may remember it as well, we laughed a lot.

I defy anyone to watch Diana Dors' performance in 'Yield to the Night' without shedding a tear. She let her dark roots grow through and went make-up free, proving she was far more than just a pretty face or an airhead starlet - she was a superb actress, and a true star. If she had only lived into old age, she would have continued to confound her critics with more fantastic acting roles. Like fine wine, Diana Dors only improved with age. Her cruelly premature death at just 52 from ovarian cancer was a huge loss to the world - and the most devastating loss of all to her husband Alan and 14 year old son Jason. Neither men ever got over it. Alan, mad with grief, took his own life, and followed his beloved wife to the grave months after her death. Orphaned in the most dreadful circumstances (his father died my shotgun in Jason's bedroom), their son together lost everything overnight - both parents, his home, his pets and his emotional and financial stability. Jason suffered a lifelong struggle to find his own identity, falling into alcoholism like Alan Lake before him, and died four days after his 50th birthday. No love story can ever have a happy ending, but this one is especially heartbreaking.

She clearly took great care of it, with frequent salon appointments - it was always immaculate, with literally not a hair out of place. The second comment here made me laugh, and reminded me of a wonderful quote from another quick-witted blonde glamour icon, Dolly Parton: "It costs a lot of money to look this cheap!" The idea you could achieve hair like Diana Dors from a home dye kit is hilarious!
