This is wonderful! Thanks for sharing. I suppose you could combine this with a small panel of ribbing on the sole of the foot. Or you could even use single bed patterning!
@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
I thought about patterning, but you'll have to do isolated motifs or else you'll have the contrast color running along the edge that you have to seam. Maybe the line will look okay, but it will probalby be harder to see and pick up the loop. Also, I don't like ribbing on the sole. My spoiled rotten little feet don't like the lumps. I like ribbing on the cuff or the top, but then I think you'd have to sew up the rib seam (how would you pick itup with the ribber in work, all that weight, etc?)
@purcellhouseholdjangivens3 ай бұрын
I agree that ribbing on the sole is not very comfortable.

@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
Yes, but - you will probably want to do the back of the leg, too, and the lace only matches if you pick a pattern that looks about the same right-side-up as upside-down. I think the smaller patterns work best, the ones that are 4, 6, or maybe 8 stitches. I did not want to add all this complication to the pattern, but you certainly could add this. Another thing you could do that would be cute is put in isolated motif lace, something narrower than the width of your size's stitches.

Thank you for the great pattern. I have already made four pairs of socks. I was just wondering if this technique would work on double bed, too?
@dianaknits10 күн бұрын
The ribbing attachment is in the way of easily getting the SAYG part of the item into position, but if you can figure that out, it wouldl certainly do the seam.

There is a pattern like that for the Mid-Gauge machine, in Mid-Gauge Mastery. However, you have to use sport-weight sock yarn and it's a much thicker sock. This sock is for the standard gauge and uses typical hand knitting sock yarn.

@dianaknits I have a fine guage which is very hard to find clear understanding of what yarn to get ..its a great little machine and I have one cone of yarn which I though was aweful untill I accidentally washed it and it came out lovely and fluffy. Would not be any good for a sock I don't think it's pure wool. But I am trying to find needles for a csm as well a beehive but with a different brand name. So I may try
@Padraigp3 ай бұрын
@dianaknits do you happen to know how I can make a closed beginning on my project without doing just the e wrap. It's so fine guage and I can't find a fine guage comb anywhere to weight the first row down so when I e wrap every few stitches pops off. If I use a rag or waste yarn that's fine because its wider acrylic but then when I join on the wool that I want to use for my project the ends are not closed when I take the waste yarn off by pulling the string and it is too small for me to pick up stitches it is like 1 ply cobweb weight yarn I think. The needles are 3.6 so very fine. I have tried just swing every second needles first but this also didn't work. So I put the waste yarn on just acrylic yarn I can see and I can latch the lost stitches up for a few rows till its good. Then I put the string for one row. Then I put my project yarn . And at the end I take out the string and it is all open loops that I have to use a 1.25 crotchet hook to try to close it. And so I am stuck.
@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
@@Padraigp Wow. For starters, I would see about a comb. You could look on the machine knitting for sale groups on Facebook and you could also contact some dealers who have websites. Next, I think it would be good to make a cast-on rag that' finer. Next, try the utility cast on where you put every other needle in work, knit one row, then put the rest in work. That one does not unravel. It isn't the prettiest, but it gets you going without picking up a mess. From there, you can use any hem, or latch cast on, or e-wrap that you like.
@Padraigp3 ай бұрын
@dianaknits apologies I replied to you instead of a different channel who told me I could somehow get a closed edge with a cast on rag or wats and ravel but I cant see how that is possible. When I take out the ravel cord its aan open cast edge and I don't want that. I will try to find a fine comb.. thanks for your help

I wonder if I can use some of this technique to create a long scarf - it's supposed to be knit in the round by hand, but I would like to do it in my flatbed machine without having to pull out my ribber (I haven't mastered circular knitting just yet on my standard machine). In theory I'm thinking I should just knit half of the width, and double the length. And then pick up the sides, sewing as I go, to join it. But if you have some kind of video on this, or would consider making one, I would be so thankful!
@dianaknits23 күн бұрын
Yes, you could. Your plan is good, but you might want to do some swatches and make sure you're happy matching the top and bottom edges. With a scarf, you could also fold it and seam it by hand and since the seam is inside and on an edge, it won't show or be bumpy. I would recommend the "faster, flatter mattress stitch" for that. The video is here kzbin.info/www/bejne/eGrUeZdnaMhkgtE&pp=ygUtZGlhbmEgc3VsbGl2YW4gZmFzdGVyIGZsYXR0ZXIgbWF0dHJlc3Mgc3RpdGNo

In your opinion, what is the best standard knitting machine? I have the LK150 but want to knit fiber yarns. Your videos are awesome. And BTW I’m in Austin, too!
@dianaknitsАй бұрын
If I could only own ONE standard gauge machine, it would be a Broher 930, 940 or 965 from Brother or the matching Knitking model (different name plate, same machine). The 940 & 965 have bigger memories. I've had a LOT of machines. I would also have all the accessories. The Knit Leader is full size, much more versatile than a half-size. The garter carriage is fantastic. The ribber and color changers are good accessories, too. I would NOT purchase other kinds because they are cheaper or still in production or someone else likes them. Of course, this is influenced by my liking to do lace and garter stitches and also liking to easily draft an original pattern with the Knit Leader. I know some of you love punch card machines and they're incredibly reliable, but I dislike punching cards and I like the flexibility of the electronics. My e-machines are pretty old, used constantly, and all still working great. If you are in Austin you should email me about our local knit club, which is fantastic.

Canyon explain to me why you do the hem double ? Is a single hem possible or do you not recommend this ?
@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
I prefer the hem, which is folded. If you did a single layer, it would not lie flat and the upper edge would be whatever cast-on you used. I suppose you could either crochet around that or perhaps you could latch up a ribbing.

I love this pattern, but I cannot find it on your website. The only patterns I find there require a ribber. Thanks for the great video! Can this be made on an LK150?
@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
The pattern is here now: dianaknits.square.site/product/No-Sew_Sock/49?cs=true&cst=custom It is NOT for the LK150. You need to get gauge, and I am pretty sure you won't be able to get tight enough stitches on the LK. The LK will make a nice sock if you can find sport-gauge sock yarn, which is rather rare. I have a pattern for that in Mid-Gauge Mastery. However, they're thicker socks.
@kerryroden76363 ай бұрын
I have an LK150, I also prefer a longer ribbed cuff. Would it be as easy an adaptation to make a longer cuff in ribbing as I think it would be?
@dianaknits3 ай бұрын
This is a standard gauge pattern, and you need the mid-gauge pattern. I do have a similar mid-gauge pattern in Mid-Gauge Mastery, but it does require a sport weight sock yarn and akes a heavier sock. Most people prefer a standard gauge sock to fit in their shoes, but sometimes people want the heavy socks for inside boots. A longer cuff in ribbing on an LK will require that you do quite a bit of latching, but I've done that sort of thing before. I'd save some time by doing knit 2, purl 1 instead of knit one, purl one.

@dianaknits2 ай бұрын
You need that particular carriage, the 551, as far as I know, and those are hard to find. It is a very old and a more difficult machine to use. It's old enough to give you more mechanical troubles; for instance, it does not a modern sponge bar. I have owned one and know it well. If it were me, I would sell the ribberto someone who can't find one and they will be thrilled, I would throw in all the other parts, and I would buy a newer machine, at least a punch card or newer.

I must be doing something wrong. The picked up loops along the seam are very stretched out. Does that go away with blocking? Also, i can't get my row AND stitch guages to match the pattern guage. I'm using a standard guage Toyota...
@dianaknitsАй бұрын
Sometimes if you don't use the exact same yarn, you get this situation where the you can't get both stitch and row gauges. Socks are rather forgiving, though. I'd go with the stitch gauge and adjust the number of rows on the bottom of the foot. The seam will improve a little as the fabric relaxes. It was stretched sideways by the km. I don't block the socks. If you are very unhappy with the seam, you could pick up the "knots" instead of the "loops" but I like the loops because I can't feel the seam on my foot.
