Diane Abbott has vowed to be the candidate for Hackney North and Stoke Newington amidst speculation over her political future.
While Labour leader Keir Starmer has said the party has restored the whip, her candidacy remains in jeopardy.
This is the first time she has spoken publicly since the row first broke out.

Diane Abbotts son was not given a place at the local State School. The Secondary school place that was allocated was not right for him. Abbott has said enough about her dilemma to intuit that there was a problem with a cohort of boys they wanted him to avoid at secondary school, and the school place he received would have thrown him into harms way As an MP she has worked hard to improve the local education offer all -Hackney schools are now considered excellent-so people coming up behind her are not faced with the same dilemma

@@adriftinaboat3452 Yet now Labour want to tax private schools which will mean thousands of poor kids lose out on free places to private schools each year. And by the way Kier Starmer was one of those poor kids who got a free place at a private school, yet he will deny other poor kids that same opportunity just to win a few votes. Farage also got a free private education and he has at least promised to reverse that if he gets elected in 5 years… but for the next 5 years tens of thousands of bright talented poor kids will have to make do with failing comprehensives thanks to Labour!

Yesterday morning, Abbott texted the BBC's Joe Pike to say: "Although the whip has been restored, I am banned from standing as a Labour candidate" Later yesterday on X: "I am very dismayed that numerous reports suggest I have been barred as a candidate" Then, she does a speech defiantly telling her constituents that she's going to be their MP... This perfectly exemplifies why she is a liability. I wouldn't be surprised if many of the commenters in here are right wing bots, though it has become more difficult to tell a right wing bot from a left wing looney. Forunately, it won't matter come election time.

@@grahamhall2662 why aren’t you concerned about standards and consistency? You just mentioned racism, Starmer’s talking about making labour a party where racism doesn’t exist but he a) clearly doesn’t mind when members of his faction say much more contemptible things, apologise for them ( just as DA did) and then they are let back into the fold with zero fuss or b) members of his own party are actually subjected to ongoing racism from within and nothing is done, unless that discrimination happens to mention Jewish people. You say she’s made gaffes which I won’t argue about but how many countless others have? DA is magnified because she’s a black woman, most of the hate she gets is related to the colour of her skin. You know it as much as I do. That she also happens to be a leftist which is another bonus for starmer wrt to getting rid of her. What happened to ‘the Labour Party is a broad church?’ Nothing you’ve said in either your original comment or your second reply is enough to justify the treatment she’s getting, there’s no good reason she shouldn’t be able to stand as a labour candidate.

OK, she got shafted by a man that shafts people to advantage his own career. Instead of turning into a demagogue out of some sense of disgruntled entitlement and an inability to do any other job... maybe she should do what a lot of other MPs should do and stop gatekeeping the younger party members and preventing them from stepping up with new ideas and representing the constituents. It's not like the stagnation that led to a man like Starmer taking power came out of a vacuum. Its been stagnated for some time because like a lot of parties, there's an old guard that believes it's their right to hold a public facing position simply because they've put time in. They could act as advisors for future generations of the party, but instead the privilege and status and perks is the driver and not service.

Both of them should get around 45 to 50% of the vote, down from 75%. Keir Starmer mishandled this situation. He has forgotten the 2000 mayoral election and Ken Livingstone.
