Absolutely Grandioso, all I can say joining J S Bach and Diane Bish is "Wir danken dir Gott wir danken dir" Psalm LXXV,1 And this symphonia should be played in every single pipe organ not only arround Christmass but in Thanksgiving, and Easter, thank you Diane for posting it here, I love you.

I'd wager that many of us dedicated "Bish-nicks" fondly recall with bated breath of anticipation the start of many an episode of the Joy of Music upon hearing the first explosive chords of this Sinfonia from Cantata No. 29 upon the Rufatti's brilliant toanl pallete. I'm certain it's no coincidence that Ms. Bish introduced us to many a weekly program with this elated, gratitude-manifesting piece of Bachian musical and expressive prowess. Kudos, Ms. Bish, for sharing your dream with the rest of us

To control the acoustics in a large building with reverberation measurements mixing at this speed is an amazing feat. Best of all is the captured -joy and spirit of this Cantata, written really for a Baroque Orchestra where string sounds can move quickly. The clarity of counterpoint and mastery of such a large instrument is wonderful. I love your gorgeous performance outfits too - they add beauty for visual presentation. So often the Organist is hidden away. Every part of these presentations is of the highest standard. Thank you Diana.and the builder of this very Great Organ so well voiced for this building. I hope people who enjoy this item will find your wider repertoire in KZbin.

On behalf of the American Guild of Organists, thank you so much for this post! I can remember attending this performance in LIVE concert, on Official AGO Business, and this performance was just phenominal. Ms. Bish reigns as President of the Organ. My late Father, whom was a National President and National Counsillor, presented her with an award many years ago. Keep up the good work Diane!

love it! no matter how many times i hear or play this song it always brings out that fire in me. And the tempo and stops are correct...remember the organ is the king of instruments and should be treated as such.

I have toured KZbin listening to various people play this piece. After listening to many people on different instruments, I believe this is the best piece. She is so precise. Others are too showy or have a weaker venue that does not capture this huge piece of music. Paul Jacobs at Crystal is second. He is amazing. Notice Coral Ridge and Crystal both use Ruffatti instruments. I think that makes a difference. I would love to hear it live and loud!

Yes I have seen that episode several times on various cable networks, such as EWTN, TBN, and a local network WMFE. The sad part about most of the telecasts is that even though the DVD copies that are available from Diane, which are made from earlier reel to reel video tapes, Betacams and now Digital format, the TV stations do so much compression that all the background noise is brought up to horrendous audible levels, while the entire organ recording dynamics is compressed tremendously.

What you said is the reason why I've heard criticism of the Coral RIdge organ from a handful of organ buffs on youtube. Listening via the poor quality audio of the TV stations the Joy of Music airs on, any organ would sound compressed. I wish I could listen the the Coral Ridge organ in person because I know for certain that Raffatti built organs sound incredible. For the time being I would love for organ centric CD labels to record Diane performing on the Coral Ridge Organ.

The tempo marking is "Presto". That means as fast as you possibly can without sacrificing technique and musicality. Well, the girl can play the "you know what" out of this piece without any sacrifice. As far as "musicality" the performance is thrilling. The ones who say that it is too fast are just jealous. This performance is just wonderful in every way. I wish that I could play it just like her. We thank you Lord, we thank you.

I know the feeling. Growing up in a church with a pipe organ most parishioners did not appreciate the extra effort Mona (our organist at the time) put into her accompaniments. I would sit in on her practices as a kid. Then I was really disappointed that all these people were talking during the prelude and make a b-line for the buffet at postlude. We moved away but were invited back for a dedication of a new organ. The postlude was Widor's Tocatta. People still bailed for the doors:

This episode from the late 80s. The Rodgers console was installed in 1989, so my guess is 1988 or 1987. This clip has been used on MANY episodes, but that's my guess as to the original airing. Bishfan has some other clips from this episode on his channel.

Love it! Love Diane! I'm no music scholar, but I know good music when I hear it. I actually tend to like classical organ pieces such as this one, in a faster tempo. Many organists prefer a slower tempo, but honestly, I find it drags the song. I like an upbeat driving tempo. I also like compositions that use the organs resources to the max. I love 'Full Organ', tinny overpowering reeds, and booming pedal divisions. If you're going to play it at all, rattle the windows a little.

I also believe, that travelling abroad to so many countries as Miss Bish has in the past 25 yrs or more, and in less than ideal environments the TV crew most likely had to make compromises is mic and audio setups in most of these churches and cathedrals, monasteries, etc. So although the video of her is emphasized, the recording quality I am afraid is not the best that could be achieved.

People forget this started out as a violin piece. If you want some point of references, look up the Preludio from Partita No 3 for Solo Violin in E major. Diane's right on the ball for tempo. It's happy-sounding and makes the organ sound downright sexy. That's all that should matter.

You got a good point on digital voices. Even though I have heard good digital's that were very convincing in sound, they indeed do not match up to real pipes in sound quality esp. when picked up by ears of organ enthusiasts. Also you are not by any means the only one to complain about reliability issues of digital voices. I have heard many cases where digital voices and entire digital organs being replaced only after a few years of service because of poor reliability and obsolescence.
